ok wait a minute - I'm by far not the world's best Biblical scholar, but can somebody point me to where in the Bible it preaches that Hate is EVER a good thing?

I mean I realize that Jesus wasn't accepted by everyone he met, but didn't he work pretty hard and showing them love and kindness in order that they would accept his message?

I think the point is regarding individuals that hate you for your religious 'stance'. Hate is never a good thing, but I have found that if individuals hate or dislike me because I am 'religious' I find that a compliment.

I'm not theologian, but believe is on the right track. I think Jesus' message was if people hate you because you live your life following his teachings/values/beliefs, then you should not be upset or angry at them. After doing some searches, I cannot find anywhere where Jesus said hate was a "good" thing. But to the OP's credit, she did say this was just a Biblical thought, not necessarily a quote.

I'm not really sure which scripture that the OP is trying to refer to, I cannot find one that says that but I thought maybe it was paraphrase of John 15:17-18 and maybe also verse 22?

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.

Now, I could be totally wrong on this because it does seem to me that these scriptures don't really say what it appears the OP is saying but this was my best try.

Anyway the bible is quite clear in my opinion that God is love and we are to love everyone, bless those that curse us and do good to those that despitefully use us. Not an easy standard to live by to be sure.

Yes, I always think it is so amazing how Jesus also said the unsaved will never see or understand what the saved do.

It's not necessarily a straight quote. A friend of mine at work gets Christian thoughts of the day off the net and passes them out to us at work. They have a word of encouragement for each day of the month. Some are from the Bible directly, others are just encouraging words that other people have been through.
