I was wondering if you knew of any cartoon videos that tell stories from the bible? Something easy to watch & tells the basic stories fairly accurately?

We are looking for one or some to possibly order from Netflix or maybe find at the library.

Thanks!:goodvibes

Many Veggietales movies depict Bible Stories.

Other than that, you may check to see if Christian Family Bookstores is on-line and you might find some titles there and then cross check it with netflix or the library.

Ditto PP -- VeggieTales are the very, very best.

The ones that aren't based on bible stories still have the same underlying philosophy. You can see clips on youtube.

And if you never thought the story of David and Bathsheba could be told to children, definitely check it out!!!!!!!

Veggie tales all the way! Love love love them and you can rent them on netflix and even watch some instantly.

It was funny we were reading in my youngest bible the other day and she said hey that story is from veggie tales!

Veggietales - the originals, not the ones they watered down for showing on NBC. I know plenty of adults who enjoy Veggietales and can quote many of the songs or lines from teh shows. Not that I'm one of them or anything... :rolleyes1

Another vote for VeggieTales!

The songs are catchy, and the stories are cute and true to the Bible, without being preachy. :thumbsup2

Agree Veggie Tales are awesome.

If you're looking for something more traditional (eg not having to explain that there were not talking tomatoes in the actual Bible :)), I like the NEST Entertainments Animated Stories the Old Testament/New Testament. (Directed by a guy who used to do Disney animation- hey, relevant to the board and everything!) I'm a Christian Ed director and regularly use them in my classes. I like that they are "gentle"- stories all there, but age appropriate for younger viewers. I use them for up to third grade. (My older kids claim they are "babyish", well they say everything in Sunday school is, lol.)

I have not been able to find them on Netflix (though please look, let me know if you can find them!) Unfortunately, they are pretty pricey to buy. You may be able to find them at a library/borrow them from a church. I lucked out someone donated most of them to us. (phew!)

I have the NEST set.
I had to buy them (not cheap. Ouch!) and have never seen them for rent. My kids outgrew Veggie Tales and I still wanted more teaching for them, so this NEST series was perfect. Great stories. Easy to watch and understand. Very well done. And they come with a very cool and educational workbook for the kdis to do afterwards. Oh, and there is a really good quiz at the end of each video! :thumbsup2 You could try ebay.

Didn't there used to be a cartoon on TV called "Davy and Goliath"? or something like that. I think it was sponsored by the Lutheran church.

There are some great Christian series available for kids. NEST is really great (our church has a set).

For rentals, you can google the ones below for Amazon and other reviews, and I get most of them in our public library. Veggie Tales are pretty good, but you'll find that a lot of the kids have already seen them.

Storyville has One Minute Bible Stories
More for topics than stories, Adventures in Odyssey involves today's kids (cartoon)
Frank Peretti stars as a Sunday School Teacher in a series: Mr. Henry's Wild Wacky World
There's a cartoon series called The Story Keepers (I seem to remember it's mostly New Testament) by Zondervan
Thomas Nelson Publishing - Word Kids (Beginners Bible) has cartoon bible stories

Superbook Bible Stories: Vol. 1, 2, 3. My 3yr dd and 8yr dd love these cartoons, even though they are from the 80's. I rent them from netflix.

:littleangel: Oh I remember this! They were like "Gumby" figures Boy & his Dog...I would watch this myself :grouphug:

I used to love watching Superbook when I was a kid. I don't know if it's available on DVD, but there was also Flying House on around the same time as Superbook. Also, TBN has brought back Superbook with a whole new updated look.

OP, there is also the Storykeepers series as well. DS7 loved watching these over and over again when he was younger. He loved it so much that he was starting to memorize the lines. There are a total of 13 DVDs in the series, all based on the NT.

Wow really nice thanks for posting this:littleangel:

No problem. I was just looking through it though and I realized it's not all small-child appropriate but they do have warnings for N S V C (nudity sex violence and cursing) when they come up in various stories so just so everybody knows.

I also like the Nest studio Bible stories. They quite often have specials, and you might want to check the library. Our library has the Bible series as well as the Hero's series in the children section.
