My DH wants to do the Crown package, but she doesn't want her hair yanked back and shellacked. Can you get something different (perhaps less harsh on the hair) done, like curls or hair blown out or something? Or is the hair styling a "take it or leave it" kind of thing?

Great question that I've often wondered too, Squirk. I want to book BBB for my 2 little princesses in the next year or 2 but I loathe that ultra tight pulled back look. It HAS to give those little ones headaches.

I actually didnt pay attention to how the little girls looked but now that you mentioned it, they do all have their hair pulled back so tight I know for a fact my dd would hate that feeling and that would ruin the experience for her

There are a few different choices, but they are all pretty gelled up! I'm thinking it's because people would complain if they paid all that money and there hair didn't last a million days at Disney! LOL I also think there aren't many other options, or things would get way to hectic with people requesting all different looks. They would probably just leave it down for you though. Have fun!

image.jpg All the styles are pretty set, it's not a hair salon where you ask what you want done, they are all set styles to choose from. My DD4 at the time she went to BBB did the crown package with fairytale princess hairstyle but my DD is used to wearing ponytails, braids and having them tight. She loved that it lasted a few days.

For what they are charging for these packages, it'd be nice to have a leeeeeetle more flexibility than some variant of a headache-inducing hair helmet. Oh well. Thanks for the replies!

I'm sure I'm in the minority but my daughter's did not stay put very well...about two hours into MNNSHP the bun starting coming undone and I had to re-pin it. Her hair wasn't pulled tightly either, it was just smooth which made it look tight. It was less harsh than I expected it to be, since it didn't even stay put for a whole evening.

My girls were miserable with that hairstyle. We did the Glitter and Go on the Dream, and will do it again on the Magic. It is just twist updo with a clip. I don't think they do it in BBB. I could be wrong, I don't remember.

If "yank-and-gel" is my only option, I am now wondering if the ice cream pedicure in Senses is the better deal for my nine-y.o. True, she won't get the shimmering makeup and face gem, but she'll also get ice cream, get to hang in the "adult" spa, and they usually will do the fingernails gratis along with the toes.

There are no heat options available at BBB, so no curls or blow out. You can ask for a looser style. My daughter had her hair done as a treat by her FGIT on semiformal night after having a regular style a couple days before since she was going to turn 13 soon. It was a half up/down style with each side twisted from the front and clipped in the back with a rhinestoned Mickey head. She said that it was an option they used when the kids who might now sit through the regular styles or didn't like the tight pony.

I didn't think children could go to the Chill Spa until they were 13?

Also, the fairy godmothers in training are NOT beauticians - they are trained on the menu of looks offered, not freestyling. That allows the looks to be consistent across the board.

My girls love this too! We've been on so many cruises, they don't care if they miss the sail away (usually when it is held).

Last time we did the BBB helmet hairdo, they had me take it out to sleep.

We just got off the Fantasy and my daughter was able to do a style that wasn't that tight bun look (NOT a fan of that at all!). I forget the name of it, but on the selection menu they gave us, it was the only one on the right hand side - the other 3 (princess, pop star & diva) were on the left. I want to say it was fairy something??? There was still some gel, but only along the top - they did a twist around the top of her head, clipped both sides together with the sparkly Mickey barrette in the back, and the rest of her hair just hung down normally. My DD has long curly hair, and I thought it looked beautiful. I'm not sure how to add a picture on here so you can see exactly what I am talking about! After we selected that style, we did have to wait a few minutes for one particular Fairy Godmother to do it, so it didn't seem like all the staff was equally trained/comfortable with this style. Maybe it was something new they were trying out?

Took DD to BBB last week and complained about the hairstyles. DD always gets the bun because I personally don't like the colored hair extensions and the other styles aren 't "princess" like. I was told that big changes were coming to BBB since many people complain daily (I know it's rumor, disney bus driver, etc, but still gives me hope ;) )

That sounds exactly like the style my daughter got. I think it is something a few of the FGIT on the ship started and not all of them do it.

PryncessLace,
this is a special event for smaller ones. It only held certain times, usually during sail away on first day.

You don't know how happy I am to hear this!! My DD will be 10 and I REALLY wanted to get her a pedicure as a special treat for running her first 5K the day before! I hope they have the special on our sailing!

Are you serious? I was told by my TA that my DD8 wouldn't be able to do anything but BBB until she was 13.
