California voted to keep DST but since that isn’t an option it means nothing.

I like the idea of change the 30 minutes and leave it. Seems like a good compromise.

The time change bothered me more in the Fall because my tired eyes just do not see as well at the days end. When I was a kid I loved it getting dark at 4p. Now that I'm retired I just don't drive at dark. Another KUDO for retirement. And the other issue is a clock I need a ladder to reach so half the year the times is correct - that works for me.

I wouldn’t care as much if I didn’t work weekends but I still vote daylight savings all year round. Do you know how much it sucks if you’re working Saturday night and then also have to quick turn to work Sunday morning? Even worse…during fall back. Sitting at work at 2:59 AM to watch the clock turn back to 2:00 AM? I’ve wanted to go Office Space on the clock before.

Personally I like it the way it is. In the summer I want it light as late as possible and in the winter having it get light earlier helps get the kid out the door to school. If I had to choose an alternative I'd say keep it on Saving time because the most important thing for me is light as late as possible in the summer.

Until listening to a podcast yesterday, I didn't realize that the US already tried year round DST from 1973-1975 and at the time the majority of people ended up hating it.

it wasn’t year round.

DST started the first Sunday in January in 1974 and ended the normal time in late October.

In 1975 DST started in late February and ended in late October.

All because of the so-called “Energy Crisis.”

Yes, most people hated it.

I don’t mind changing to DST, but the second Sunday in March is WAY too early. Go back to the original start date of late April. Or if they insist, early April.

I didn’t like it being still dark out this morning at 7 am

How's everyone feeling today? I'm groggy and disoriented. Went to bed about half an hour early to try to compensate, but it seems to have backfired. Ended up waking up at 6am body time (way early for me), and not able to go back to sleep because my brain was registering clock time. Blech, I hate the time change.

I'm actually doing OK. I ended up staying up way too late last night, which from the sound of things might have worked in my favor. - When I woke up to use the bathroom, I was still tired enough to get back to sleep! And the cats haven't got a clue yet, so they let me sleep until "old" breakfast time. :rotfl:

It might still hit me over the next couple of days, though.

I don't mind it. I love the longer daylight hours in the spring/summer. As a baby, I don't remember the changes that happened in '74 and '75, but I'd like to try it again as the world is definitely different today. Maybe it would work better?

My first world problem. Woke up 30 minutes before my alarm this morning.

I feel like death warmed over today. DS arrived last night for spring break. I've just moved to a new area. The airport is a little over an hour away via an 8 lane highway with a speed limit of 70, but everyone goes 80+. At my previous house, the airport was 20 minutes away via a 2 lane "highway" with a 55 speed limit. So, driving to the new airport is a little terrifying in the best of circumstances.

DS' flight was supposed to arrive at 10:30 pm - no biggy but a little later than my bed time, so I had more caffeine than normal during the day in order to be bright eyed for the drive. Except the flight got delayed - to 3:15 am. o_O I tried to nap before leaving, but no dice. I was on the road at 1:30 am - drank more caffeine on the way and back. It was almost 5 am before I got home (2 1/2 hours driving, 1 hour lost to DST), which was my wakeup time for years. So now at 3 pm half my brain says go back to sleep and half says it's time to be wide awake.
