I was at House of Blues last night. It took me over an hour to get home--it's usually about half an hour. Traffic was backed up all over WDW, even on the back roads. In all my trips there as an on-property guest and as a local, I've never seen it that bad. Not even close--and I was no where near the MK!!

Leave plenty of time to get where you need to be!

All week we have been stuck in traffic trying to get back to the hotel from the theme parks. No matter when you leave, it's so bad. One good thing though, I did find some other ways to go :) :sunny:

It is just so crowded. This week is the first time I've ever had to park on the West Side when I wanted to go to the Marketplace at 10:30am.

Wow, Disney must be loving this! I wonder if this will be a record setting Christmas attendance?

Its pretty much the norm for this time of year.

It is nuts! We live close to AK and DH has been sitting in traffic all week trying to get to and from work. We've basically been hibernating in the house but we're venturing out tomorrow for New Years Eve, yeh we're crazy, I know. ;)

Agreed. I had to park at Cirque to go to World Of Disney the week of Christmas. Anymore, I park elsewhere....

So what's the secret to coping?? We are going to WDW next Christmas and staying at the Bonnet Creek Resort by DTD, at least for part of the trip. We haven't rented a car on our last three trips to WDW, but probably will this time since we are going to Universal, too. Do we take the Bonnet Creek shuttle as much as possible? Are there certain times of the day when there's not a traffic jam?

Be advised - this isn't just Orlando....

it's SEASON.... and the snowbirds are here....

What did you expect this time of year?!?!?!?!?!?!

Lots of traffic added with people having no idea where they are going leads to lots of problems. We will also be glad when it calms down a little although I do like the influx of tax dollars.

The traffic was so bad last night with 2000+ people leaving House of Blues, who knows how many leaving PI, and Cirque letting out--all within about 45 minutes of each other that it was chaos. The buses were stuck in it. The police were stuck in it. People were driving over curbs and on sidewalks, it was pandemonium. It actually made the news today, and it wasn't a flattering story.

Once you finally got away from DTD, you fed into traffic from the MK. Just a debacle.

In all honesty, WDW and OCPD totally dropped the ball this time. They definitely didn't have enough or effective traffic management.

To be honest there is no way they could have. It is simply impossible to efficently manage the number of vehicles that enter the roadways at one time on NYE.

I agree, it would have been a mess no matter what they did, but they could have had it better than it was. To take over two hours to get out of the DTD parking lot is pathetic.

Part of the problem is people insist on driving their own cars instead of takign WDW transportation. Bottom line it holds up everyone and doesn't get you back to your room any faster--if anything it's slower.

We stayed at SRS, and could have walked back and forth three times in the time it took to take a WDW bus. Unfortunately by the time we knew this we were already on the bus and held captive.

Late yesterday afternoon, my sister, DD and I decided to see a movie at the AMC on the West Side. We had to park as far out on the West Side as possible to get a space. When we left after the movie, there must have been 50 cars circling the parking area waiting for someone to leave so they could park. What a mess.

I agree with Ducklite. People staying at the resorts should take the buses when it is so busy. They would have a lot less stress and would probably get to shop sooner. It's no fun circling a parking lot for a half hour or more.

I'll be avoiding this time of year. :Pinkbounc
