Beware the Seagulls

I want to feed one of those cool looking armadillos I see all over the grassy areas on the side of the roadways. Is that OK??? We don't have armadillos in WI.

Lol, I love the armadillos! They are so cute.

I thought there were fewer seagulls this year. Last trip ds lost a churro to one of the bigger birds.

Ahhhhhhhhh, this thread is like my worst nightmare! I am DEATHLY afraid of seagulls, thanks to some traumatic experiences at the shore when I lived in New Jersey. I saw a lady get ice cream snatched right out of her hand and I almost started bawling. I had to run into Pinocchio's Village Haus and sit down! :rotfl:

My poor boyfriend had like legit claw marks from me grabbing his arm... He would just tell me to look down and he would guide me through Magic Kingdom. I could still see their evil and aggressive shadows though!

I actually hid inside Yakitori House for like 25 minutes eating my Kaki Gori (don't worry... It wasn't busy! I wasn't taking anyone's spot!) because I was afraid it would get stolen if I didn't. I *did* get to have fish and chips but not until the sun went down. No way was I taking a chance.

I'm terrified of birds, as dumb as that sounds. I have had them sweep down and take things from my hands or just fly by me and hit me in the face with a wing several times in my life.

While eating outside at the Yak & Yeti CS, I couldn't believe the number of people feeding the birds!!! The birds were literally circling tables waiting for food. Two even landed on our table :scared1:

The problem isn't the birds, rather the people who decide to feed them.

Armadillos are kind of shy. I've seen almost no living armadillos (living here in Florida). I've seen a lot of armadillo roadkill.

If you want to feed them, they eat bugs for the most part. Beetles, grubs, caterpillars, etc.

I am hoping one of the posters to the this thread is the person who had a short video attached to their autosignature. The video was of a seagull entering a store and snatching a bag of chips (I think). It was hilarious - I watched it regularly and laughed everytime. I would love to see it again.

I thought of a way to keep the seagulls away. Have everything dipped in dark chocolate (toxic to birds). Even if a bird is stupid enough to grab my food, he'll pay for it dearly.

Seriously though, I know it's inhumane to talk about killing birds, but I'd have to think that Disney is losing a lot of money by having to replace swiped food.

Maybe there's some frequency level they can blast out that only birds can hear that will drive them away.

I call the walk through Frontierland "The Gauntlet" and no matter how much I try, I CANNOT enjoy Frontierland and it's all because of those darn birds! I feel like I'm in a video game with the birds at the controls (I swear they've got a scoreboard somewhere on one of those roofs!)

I had one swoop down & grab a small little potato chip out of my hand once. Then a couple of others came and hovered over us as we walked as fast as we could to get out of the area. Creepy birds......

Ugh - I got attacked last weekend. I had gone alone over to get fast passes at TM while my friend and the 6 kids sat down for lunch at the rose garden. I decided to surprise them and bring some french fries back. I ordered 5 fries and a soda not thinking ahead about how the heck I was going to carry all of that. I ended up putting the fries in a drink carrier with one cup of fries balancing in the middle. So I had one thing in each hand. I knew about the birds, but wasn't thinking about them as I walked through Frontierland. Until I got smacked in the back of the head! I screamed and tried walking faster. Didn't help - next I got smacked in the shoulder - again they got me from behind. I ended up trying to walk along the walkways attached to the buildings which helped part of the way. It was SO scary and gross!!

I am also a victim of the Frontierland churro cart. I was given a replacement churro by the cast member, but the seagull scared the hell out of me! I get really angry when I see people feeding birds. I've been known to snap at them to stop feeding the damn birds.

I was very paranoid while trying to eat something from the Boulangerie back in December, eating at the sitting area in the shop next to it. There were a lot of tiny birds flying all over the place, so I was completely uncomfortable the entire time trying to eat and keep an eye on my food.

Maybe we should get to Pete to add that to his 'Stay out of the damn lakes' ending to the Podcast ;)

We just got back and the birds were brutal, particularly in Frontierland. You had to bob and weave to avoid them. We saw all kinds of people feeding the freaking birds, which is obviously just encouraging them! Also be sure and make sure your strollers are food-free because we saw many people returning to strollers that had been taken over by birds- YUCK!

I don't know- DD and many others have had Mickey Bars stolen, and they have a dark chocolate coating. Doesn't seem to bother them...

DD was attacked there last Friday! I was pushing her stroller and she was eating a PB&J. A seagull came in from behind me, scraping the top of my head, swooped in and knocked the sandwich out of her hand. Then there were about 6 birds trying to eat it off the ground. I was furious- I kicked the sandwich away and threw it in the trash... no way was I letting those flying rats eat it! I went into Columbia Harbour House and asked if I could just buy a PB&J and not the whole kids meal, they were very nice and gave me a sandwich to calm down DD.

So... the next day we went to Cosmic Rays and sat outside facing the Castle. Seagulls were on the railing but not going to the tables. Next thing you know, some guy was putting out french fries to feed them! Another guy yelled at him to stop and DD got all freaked out that more seagulls were now gathering. Needless to say- we moved indoors!

Oh, I forgot to mention... on Saturday DD and I were riding the Peoplemover. When we got off the ride, seagulls were sitting on the railing along the loading area overlooking the hotdog stand in front of the Astro Orbiter. They looked liked they were stalking out their next victim!

For years and years we would take our WDW vacations over spring break. In 2008 we tried summer. What was our favourite part? NO SEAGULLS :woohoo::yay:

We were @ Epcot two weeks ago, ordered Churros in Mexico when my phone rang. Danged seagulls actually took the whole basket of Churros off the table! DD9 was not happy. The restaurant gave us another order, but told us to keep it covered up. We started walking toward the exit with DD9 sneaking bites of one and me huddled over the basket like I was smuggling something. Anothe seagull came down and took the one out of DD's hand and really scared her. She refused to eat another Churro even after we were indoors where NO birds could get to us! We reported this to guest relations with an offer for my husband to come and take care of the seagull problem - shotgun style!

The new covered outdoor seating area in the Mexico pavilion on the lakefront at Epcot has a horrible problem. On Saturday, I was waiting at our table, and the birds (not just seagulls) were actually swooping around the tables trying to steal food. There was a pigeon nest over the table next to us, and three times, I saw pigeon poop squirt down. I almost threw up and pointed it out to the people sitting on the table, but they just looked at me like I had three heads. There were marks on the table, so I'm sure it has landed in people's meals and people don't notice. GROSS!!!! If you eat there, look up before you pick up a table and stay away from ones under beams that have white streaks on them.

I will never eat there again!!! Hear that Disney??? Put up spikes on all the beams to keep the birds from nesting there!!!
