Beware paying with Disney gift cards

I find this interesting since every Disney resort we have stayed at has had the same response that they can only have 1 credit card on file per room.

I also still find what you did/tried to do quite shady. A regular hotel has no problem changing the method of payment at checkout because it has not had that payment for 45 days or more like Disney has. Again, if it were a room only at Disney it would be a whole different thing but for it to be a refund on a package that has to be paid for 45 days in advance is fishy. Just my opinion.
I have heard that you can have more than one credit card attached to your room. Disney will create different folios for the KKTW cards and attach the charges to the associated credit card.

However, I have never heard of a Disney resort manager refunding money on a package and then charging the balance to a rewards card or numerous gift cards. I never knew that they could do that. TBH, I'm still skeptical that it can be done routinely. Room-only reservations are an entirely different story, given that the charges originate from the resort.

My feelings are that what the OP did is more the exception than it is the rule.

That is what I am thinking too. The OP should be happy they did it before, but now it sounds as if they are not allowing all that finaggling around anymore.

I also think whatever other hotels can or can't do has no bearing at all on what a WDW resort can or can not do.

FTR, Disney doesn't like doing refunds and re-applying charges to another method at check out.

No business does. Every time a credit card is used, a portion goes towards that credit card--use your visa, visa gets $$$. Use your mastercard, mastercard gets some dough. That is why most businesses give you perks for using their own card.

OP-- I think the reason the CM was hesitant to do this for you is what others have already mentioned:

The CM has no way of knowing how many reward points you have in your Disney Visa account, and whether or not some of that $900 was earned by charging the package that you are trying to get a refund on. Even though you have more than enough rewards to cover the reward points lost by refunding your package, the CM could not possible know this. Imagine if everyone tried to do this.

For instance, I charge a $6,000 vacation package on my Disney Visa. I get $120 in reward points. I go on my vacation. At the end of it, I bring my $120 rewards card to the front desk and ask them to refund my vacation package by $120. They do so, leaving a charge of only $5,880 on my card, which means that now I SHOULD have only gotten $117.60 in rewards points, but I've already SPENT $120 in rewards points, so I just stole $$ from Disney, not a lot, but stealing none the less.

Anyhow, OP, even though you had more than enough rewards points to cover the loss, the CM had no way of knowing this, and as you can see from the above example, this kind of transaction can very easily be shady. That's why the CM was hesitant to do it. --Katie
