Beware of Irons - seriously

I lurk a lot but rarely post. The only negative to our entire "Magic" vacation happened to my sister. She decided to use the iron on deck 2 near the aft of the ship. No one had been using it and it was cold. She adjusted the temperature setting to the very lowest for delicate fabrics.

Unbeknownst to her, the temperature strip had only one true setting - HOT - no matter where the indicator was set.

She attempted one press upon her $500 satin evening gown and it immediately left a giant scorch mark on the front panel of the gown. After crying for a while, she wore it the next evening and just hid the spot with her handbag, saying she would just wear it and forget it and throw it away later as it was beyond redemption.

As a side note, our stateroom hostess tried desperately to help her remove the stain (impossible) and my sister did speak politely to a manager in guest services, but Disney did not compensate her for the loss of the dress saying that the irons are "use at your own risk." Indeed they are risky, as she learned to her dismay. Perhaps they should post a note next to them saying "HOT ONLY."

Just FYI.

Thanks for the info. I feel really bad for your sister. Was there a sign in the room that said "use irons at own risk"? We brought a travel steamer with us and that worked pretty well. I left it out in our room and our steward did not tell us we could not use it.

Oh that's such a shame :(

I mentioned on a thread a week ago, that I took my own iron on our cruise to use in the laundry rooms, because I was afraid that would happen.

Thanks for the warning.

Makaylee,

I'm not sure if there was a sign in the laundry room saying "use at your own risk" or not. But apparently, that's the rule. I personally avoided the laundry room like the plague - after all, I'm on vacation!

Thanks for giving me the needed ammunition for getting my clothes "pressed" by the Disney laundry on the ship. Definitely worth it versus getting your clothes ruined. Thanks for the heads up. :worried:

For the most part, I get my items pressed by the laundry service. They do a great job on evening clothes, which are difficult to press under ideal conditions.

I always recommend using a pressing cloth. Those irons are well used and it always seems the person ahead of me must have had it on the highest setting.

I'm sorry that this happened. :(
