Between the BLs (Biggest Loser) Summer Challenge 2010 Part 2

Morning Everyone! Well, I have been meaning to post the COW results but I am going to give everyone ONE MORE CHANCE...send me your COW data if you did it. We only have 3 people this time so I am unsure if people just haven't done it yet or if that is it as we wrap up this challenge.

Today is a tough day for me. All the teachers have gone back to school and I am at home. I decided to start it out by showing how tough I can be so I ran 13.1 miles in 2:18 this morning. I will now face the prospect of calling on anything I can find and keep up with any possibilities of a last minute hire.

Anyhow, I had a small disaster on the eating front yesterday, but I am DETERMINED not to let it put me in a funk all day!! I have used ALL of my Flex points for the week (and then some), so it will be a hungry week for me... and I will need to stick to a good food/exercise plan to even maintain this week (especially considering where I am in my "cycle"). But I WILL write up a plan, I WILL post it on the fridge, and I WILL stick with it, come hell or high water!! It started with breakfast.... I skipped my usual morning hot beverage (1 point) for a cup of green tea. I only ate 2 points and will have another point of protein about mid-morning to spread out food better. I have all of my dinner meals for the week pre-planned, so I will have to look at the menu and see if there are any nights that will be difficult and work around them. Tonight's salmon burgers and salad will be easy. I'll just skip the bun.

Way to pick yourself up and get right back on track! :thumbsup2

Me too!

I decided to start it out by showing how tough I can be so I ran 13.1 miles in 2:18 this morning. I will now face the prospect of calling on anything I can find and keep up with any possibilities of a last minute hire.

I'm not sure what to say here. I'm impressed that you ran so far, but I'm also worried that you are being too hard on yourself.

Ditto Lisa. Thanks for all your hard work with the COW! I am really looking forward to Healthy Habits. :cool1:

Ok. I must get a few things done today. I am planning to go swimming today, if the water is warm enough. If it is, I should achieve my August exercise goal a day early. I only have about 35 minutes to go! So excited. 2 weeks ago, I thought I'd be about 200 minutes short. Exercising has been so helpful the past week or so. That and my BL friends!

Have a great day everyone!

No running for 2 days = fresh legs. no running for 8 days = weak legs! ;)

It was slow, and my legs and glutes felt it, fo sho'! BUT - I feel amazing. Like I could take out Cruella, Ursula, and all the wicked stepmothers in one swift swoop! I've always heard that drug addicts are chasing that next high, and I feel that way. I'm plotting how early I have to get up, what I have to do, to run 4 or 5 times this week. Seriously. Wonder how long that will last.:lmao: Oh endorphins, how I have missed you!

Off to get ready! Have a wonderful day everyone!
Taryn

That endorphin thing has happened to me ...ONCE. Just once!! Desperately waiting for it to happen again. LOL. Congrats on a great run!!!

Just back from a 4.3 mile run. Humidity is starting to inch back up again so it was a little warm. It felt good but I was running with a friend who is a little slower so it just seemed easier. I was away on military leave last week and didn't get the mileage in that I wanted to so I'll be working on that this week. Also, Jen, that's why I didn't respond for the COW this week. My vegetable and fruit intake were woefully inadequate because I didn't have my own fridge. :rolleyes1
..school starts next Tuesday for our kids. So next week will be crazy!!

I'll check in later...

Hey everyone! I am mixed again.

#1. Booked our WDW trip for next year today! We'll be at BLT over the 4th of July. I wanted to see the 4th fireworks once, and since I don't know my master's schedule, and won't until possibly too late, I figured that week would be safe. If not, they can stuff it! ;)

That is going to be an awesome trip! Good for you. I always have a hard time going to sleep when Im excited about a disney trip even if its a year away. Hope you got to be at a decent time.

1. I am exercising regularly, even through the heat of summer.
2. My legs are firmer than they have ever been, and I felt like they looked better, but my younger, always thinner sister complimented me several times on them, so now I'm sure they look better.:rotfl:
3. I am not eating through my emotions all the time. When they say time does heal, it was a tough year, after I lost my mom, but I remember Jennz saying, you never really get over it, but you learn to live again without that person. It is true, and this summer, I'm doing ok again.
4. I can spend time with my family and do not have to eat everything that is put out in front of me.
5. I can exercise while I'm on vacation.
We are off to WDW in a few hours!!! I did the scavenger hunt this morning and as Michael was following the clues, he said, "they could be a little harder, mom" :rotfl: and when he got to the final clue, a wdw shirt and donald hat, he thought that was the prize. I had to egg him on to figure out that we were going. I said, Look at the shirt, what does it say? He was like, "wdw, no way, you're kidding" I said " no, I'm not" but he didn't believe me, "where are the suitcases?". He didn't believe me until he went in the basement and saw them for himself, and then he got teary, with "happy tears" and gave me a big hug, but he still asked a couple more times to make sure it wasn't a prank. :rotfl: I showed him the tickets and emails from disney.

I'll be back to see the Summer Biggest Loser next monday and I"ll see you all for the fall challenge!!

I am sure you are already on your way to WDW. Just wanted to say that your accomplishments to date are amazing. I am glad you are enjoying your vacations and the story of telling michael was great. I hope you have a wonderful time and I cant wait to hear about it when you return. A TR would be nice:goodvibes

I've started posting on the new thread a little bit. Am I the only one who has trouble with change? :rotfl: It's pretty bad when changing threads stresses you out a little bit. This is something I need to work on!

Rose I am with you here. I never am good with change. I feel a little uneasy about it but Im sure it will be fine ;)

I had a great morning at my sons first day of kindergarten. They set it up for them to be an orientation. We had to find things around the classroom like the bathroom and his cubby. He found his seat and had to do some get to know you projects. They sang a song and read some books. Then we were dismissed. It all went quickly. His teacher seems nice. Overall I am happy. Tomorrow is the real test for him. I drop him off at before school care and then they take him to his class then he returns there until I pick him up later in the day. This is the time I really wish I could be a SAHM. The teacher was asking for weekly volunteers and I felt bad not being able to help. I am going to see what else I can do to volunteer for her with the time I do have. Ya well someone has to pay the bills right.

I am going to relax and hopefully get a run in later once it cools down.
I hope you all have a great day.

, jen, I will be thinking of you today! :flower3:

Thanks Lisa! I really think I am doing good with knowing I probably will not have a full time job this school year but it is just hard because DH and all my good friends here are all teachers. Today they are all going back to work and planning tings for the classroms and gearing up for a new school year. I just am missing that a bit today.

I'm not sure what to say here. I'm impressed that you ran so far, but I'm also worried that you are being too hard on yourself.

I might have run the miles today a little bit for all the wrong reasons....:rolleyes1 I knew I was being hard on myself and I knew I was pushing myself. I guess a bit of my controlling behaviors are shining through today. I can't control the job search but I could control my running.

And, Jen, you're gonna smoke me at the Princess. Holy cow. :worship::worship:

Just back from a 4.3 mile run. Humidity is starting to inch back up again so it was a little warm. It felt good but I was running with a friend who is a little slower so it just seemed easier. I was away on military leave last week and didn't get the mileage in that I wanted to so I'll be working on that this week.

I will NOT be smoking you at the Princess. There are days where I can push my body and days where my body lets me know who is boss! :rotfl: Great job on your run today. The humidity is bad here again today and I should have gotten up earlier to run. I don't know how you are running in the heat and humidity in the afternoon!

Hey everyone. Weekend was so-so, didn't eat as well as I should have, but I didn't go off the deep end either. Did d3 of w2 c25k, but I think I am repeating it tonight. Also took the pup for a 2.2 mile walk last night. Even at 9pm, it was hot as heck here.

Speaking of hot...got home last night to a 85 degree house..the air conditioner was running, but not blowing cool air. So we slept without the air on. Fortunatley, our ac guy was able to come early this morning, and it was an easy repair, and it has started to cool off fairly quickly.
Thank goodness! was expecting the worst, so a $60 repair bill wasn't too bad.

I'll check in later - off to do dinner!

Wow – I have 5 pages to catch up on! I left work early Friday for DS’s Open House at school, so I missed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and this morning! Hopefully I can make it through, but I apologize in advance if I miss anyone.

Pamela – I wish it was as easy to put pics up here as it is on Facebook – I’ll try to add a pic sometime, I really do like how it turned out!

Taryn – Hope the yard sale profits made/will make up for your frustration – it is a lot of work, but it ends up being worth it usually.

Tracey – Hope you had a great camping trip!

CC – I’m envious of all your exercise – I have trouble getting in 30 minutes most days!

Dona – Yay for the bathroom being fixed! Hopefully the walls will be close behind!

Rose – I can’t take more than one day off either. I had to last week because of all the schedule conflicts, but by the third day I was aching to run or do something/anything! (Wait, did I really just say that?). I can’t imagine how I’ll be when I get to running as much and as long as you do – I’ll probably drive everyone around me crazy if I have to miss a day! I really do admire your achievements – there are so many strong women here and you are all very inspirational!

I am actually glad I have boys when we shop, its quick and they agree with whatever I pick for them. I just hope it stays this way as they get older.:rotfl2:
Amen! My mom used to hate school shopping with me and I could never understand why! Now that it takes me one trip and five minutes to do ALL of DS’s school shopping, I can understand why she got upset with the multiple marathon shopping sessions :rolleyes1 !

It must have been a pizza kind of weekend! We had Domino’s on Friday and then finished the leftovers last night for dinner – is anyone else impressed by how much better their pizza is now?

I finally figured out Mapmyrun (thanks Connie!) and tracked my regular running routes. The one at work is just under three miles, the one at my mom’s house in not quite 2 (although it feels MUCH longer?), the one on our main road is almost exactly 2 miles (and also feels much longer than the one at work, but it has a few doozy hills). But we found a new trail on Friday – right at the end of our parking lot actually –and the part we ran ended up being almost 4 miles! We’ve done it twice now, and there’s a lot more to the trail so I can lengthen my runs as I get stronger. I’m so excited now because I know I can do the 5k in under 30 minutes because I can do almost 4 miles in under 30 minutes! Who would’ve thought that I would be excited about stuff like this? Certainly not me two months ago!

My3Princes - Congrats on the new camper!

Connie – Happy Birthday!

Tracey – I loved the Wicked series – I hope he writes some more…

Kathy – Have an amazing trip!

Jen – I have been slacking on the COW for the past few weeks, sorry. But I plan to do better next challenge, and am excited to see water and exercise will be constant – very helpful! Thank you for all you do for us! Good luck keeping yourself occupied, I frequently long for down time, then drive myself crazy trying to figure out what to do with myself when I get it!

Thanks to everyone for this - the organizers, the coaches, Shannon, Jen, Lisa, and everyone who participates. This is a great group - so motivating and inspirational - I am grateful for you all every day!

Sorry, no time to answer the fun questions today, maybe I’ll try again tomorrow. I’ll have to say hi in the new thread too, I’m going to be a busy girl! Have a great night everyone!

Bree

I was just about to turn in for the night when I realized that I read but didn't respond.

Jude-Good to hear from you! Thank you for all you do for our country!

Lindsay-What a great way to start kindergarden! for tomorrow!

Taryn-I was :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:when I read your comment to me! Just what I needed after a kind of blah day!

Thanks Bree! WTG on your running!

Today was a so-so day. The job search didn't turn up anything today and I want to study for more tests to become certified in another state, but something always seems to take priority. Today my sister and her husband came for a visit. She goes back to work on Wednesday (she and her husband both teach) and he starts tomorrow, so that will give me some much needed tim to study. I have a few things to do tomorrow, but I am determined to start studying on Wednesday.

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

Well... is that enough? I think so! I'm going to leave it as is so you can cut and paste it into your replies. I will answer in the next post!............P

Jen:hug:---It's not the same, I know, but when DS went to college last fall and we came home and Mike got up the next day and went to work, I was so sad. I felt like I had no purpose, and no reason to really even get up. I hadn't worked in forever and was mourning my DS being away, and at the same time mourning the other kids we didn't have. Anyhow, the point is, you will get through this. Keep plugging away and something will come along. It may not be what you think or what you are expecting, but something will come along. Hang in there.

And my goodness--what a run! That's a very impressive time! I hope it at least helped you feel in control of things for a little bit.

Hi Jude! Hope it cools off soon!

Lindsey--sounds like a good first day! Hope you get your run in.

Dahly--oh, I feel your pain on the air conditioner. Ours went out a couple of weeks ago. Glad the repair bill wasn't too bad.

Bree--your running sounds like it's going great!

CC--

Ok, I think I'm caught up. I did strength class today, and did really good with not overdoing it. Mike and I are going to run after work tomorrow. Haven't decided if we're doing 4 miles or just 40 minutes. We are supposed to be going slow and taking it easy. I had a really good day at work today. I finally had some time to really dig into the data base I'm working with, and I learned a lot. Of course, now my brain is swirling with a million questions! Hope everyone has a great evening and a good day tomorrow!

I need a pick me up. Somehow, I seem to have lost my resolve. I am seriously spiraling, and I need help. I am really, really scared. REALLY. I can't seem to get back the amazing self-control and willpower I have had all year. I think I ate about 10 hershey's kisses today. We give them to the kids at the end of the day that don't get in trouble, part of the required discipline system. 9 pieces have 200 calories. For 23 calories, 1 is not bad for a chocolate fix. But I grab one every time I walk by the shelf. I have to keep them. I need to figure out a way to walk away.

I did just put my food in spark for the first time in months, and even with the kisses, I am right at 1200 for the day. I guess eating a bunch cantaloupe made me feel full with fewer calories. Whew. I feel better, I thought I had really gone over.

See, I've even lost touch with what is going in. I feel flabby. I am like Carmiedog, I think I gained about 10 pounds Saturday night and Sunday. 1 or 2 meals/days off really makes me skyrocket. I am really scared, but I did uncover my scale, and will get on tomorrow. I might not tell you what it says, but I will do it.

I am holding you responsible for holding me accountable. If anyone is actually reading this thread still. Didn't quite feel up to unloading on the newbies tonight. Rose, I know what you mean about change! I am going to work really hard to be welcoming, but I need you guys. Hopefully, we'll add some new buds to our list! Bree, Lindsay, Dahly, Connie, you ladies all really jumped in this summer, and I am so glad you did! See, Rose, we can make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.

Class tonight? Well, he just posted everything and said here. We ahve a ton of projects, it's educational technologies. The first assignment is to set up a website, on which we will post all the projects and assignments for the class. Worked on that a bit tonight. Got tired of trying to get a picture on, and he really didn't give us a lot of info on what he wants yet.

Got to go change the sheets, do some laundry, clean the kitchen. Hope to be in the bed by 11, up at 5, and on the track by 5:30 for a 3M run!

OH YEAH!!!!! Took my dog out this evening - don't talk about him much. He's a black chihuahua named Pablo. (The penguin who hated the cold, picasso, or juan pablo montoya. Depends on which member of the family you ask). Should have named him Shadow, because he is mine, and is scared of his. Anyway, as soon as we stepped on the patio, I SAW A SNAKE!!! I AM TERRIFIED OF SNAKES!! It was small, maybe 12-15 inches. Black and white, 2 pencil diameter. He crawled under the paver we put in last week. I SCREAMED SNAKE! and DH came out but couldn't find him. He did see a lizard, and is trying to convince me that's what I saw. I am terrified to take the dog out tonight! The girls won't be allowed in their outdoor toy box for a while! It's right on the patio near there!

AK just called to tell me goodnight. :cloud9: It's been almost a month since she stayed with her grandparents, and she's been really clingy this week. Not sure what's up with that, she'll be 11 in a month, I'll take it!

Going to try to get off here. NOW.
Night!
TARYN

Taryn-- a lot of people (including me!) seem to be having some food issues this week. It's been a lonnnnnnng hot summer, and I think we all just need a breather. We are all in it for the long run and even one really bad week is not going to offset all of your (our) hard work. (I'm speaking to everyone now:goodvibes). Make sure you are getting enough to eat. Man cannot live on hershey's kisses and cantalope alone!:thumbsup2 I have been guilty of this as well--not eating enough. I think for me personally, the exercise is catching up with me and my body is screaming for calories--which is why I've been so hungry. That in itself is not a bad thing, but I have been choosing bad food at times, which I need to work on as well. Maybe we all need to make or revisit our accomplishments. You can do this. I know you can.:goodvibes

And you're right, we will make lots of great new friends.:goodvibes

Have a good sleep.:cloud9:

I have had a horrifying food week too! Well, more than a week - all I can think about is eating and I'm not making healthy choices. Things have been insanely busy and stressful with work, so everyone in my dept has been supplying the candy dish and eating lots of it! DH and I are both working extra hours for weeks, and I had a 2.5 million dollar budget due today. Also, DH, DD and I came down with a bad cough over the weekend. *sigh*
Well, I decided my crazy eating ended today. I went cold turkey on treats at work. I've managed to stay within my 2-pound maintain range , but I know I can't stay on this path because the scale will go in the wrong direction.

So glad today is over! Just got home from 4 hours in the ER with DD2! After being sick all day and some changes and not being able to keep ANYTHING down we talked to the pediatricians office who advised us to head to the ER. Everyone was great there! They were EXTREMELY busy so she was actually in the hallway pretty much the whole time. It's just a virus but she got half a bag of IV fluid with the anti-nausea medicine and seems to be doing better. She was falling asleep when they said we could head home. So tomorrow will be clear fluids and maybe some saltines at some point. She ate an orange popsicle and drank some apple juice in the ER. Thank goodness I grabbed the iPod so she could watch Bolt and a bit of Wall-E and then she asked to go to sleep!

DD1 was a really good sister at the hospital. DH and I spent time with each of them there. We're going to treat them this weekend and take them to a soccer game in Foxboro on Saturday night. She's going to sit with her sister and play games and watch tv with her tomorrow. Depending on how I sleep will depend on whether or not I go to work. DH has a phone meeting and was going to stay home. I have one client who I had to cancel last Tuesday after my accident so I don't want to have to cancel it again.

Going to check on Izzie and then try to go to sleep myself! PD for a quiet night!

The good news is that I walked 4 miles while at soccer practice with DD1 before we went to the ER. SO I did 6 miles total and Bob's 20 minute strength workout!

Good night!

Got to go change the sheets, do some laundry, clean the kitchen. Hope to be in the bed by 11, up at 5, and on the track by 5:30 for a 3M run!

TARYN

:grouphug::grouphug: Taryn, most of my summer was like that so I can empathize. I felt like I was running around in circles and not going anywhere. (And, frankly, I wasn't!!) Maybe it's a phase we all have to go through when trying to change our body image??? I don't know. But figuring out how to get past it is, I think, part of the challenge. I'm not there yet but have been superconscious of what I'm eating this week, in a way that I let slide over the summer. And maybe sometimes our bodies just tell us they need a break to re-adjust?? You've had some amazing accomplishments - you won't lose those!! Take a deep breath tomorrow is always a new beginning, right??!:cheer2:

:hug:Tracey - how awful!! Hope DD is better super quickly!
Jude and Rose - THANKS!

Super quick fly by post while I try to stop sweating long enough to get my makeup on! Wanted to share a NSV. Pablo got me up at 2. Not sure why. I took him out, freaked out about the snake, but he didn't potty.:headache:

Anyway, forgot I had turned down the volume on the alarm yesterday as I was trying to get up! I didn't hear it, so I woke up 45 minutes late. The time I needed to hit the track. Rather than phoning it in, like I did last week, I went for a quick 2 mile run, and pushed hard. Better than nothing. I can make up the calories burned by not eating the Kisses today!

Have a great day. Tracey- hope you get some rest and DD is on the upward mend!
TARYN

Thanks, Taryn! She slept all night as did I and is still sleeping. Seh was a bit restless at first and asked for some apple juice. She's still sleeping now. I'm going to go shower and get ready to go to work at 9. It'll be all snuggle time when I get home!

Have a great day everyone!

Looks like you are already up and going, but I wanted to offer 2 pieces of support Taryn. One is friend to friend and one is teacher to teacher.

Taryn-You are doing great. No, I take that back. You are doing amazingly well, absolutely wonderful. I don't know too many people who could lose weight while one daughter must eat so much for gymnastics and her husband is eating at varying times throughout the day. You have been an amazing support system for DDs, DH, and us. You lost all your Disney/DxDP weight in no time.

In the words and wisdom of Eleanor Roosevelt, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Now, teacher to teacher, there is a law (I'm pretty sure it's federal, but know it is in CT) that you cannot give the kids candy. Around here, there are numerous kids with severe peanut and/or tree nut and/or milk allergies. Kisses would never be allowed in some schools. I will try to find out more information for you and PM it to you. I know the kids like receiving Kisses, but I always had to buy them trinkets or large stickers to use as rewards. Oriental Trading Company was my BFF. :rotfl2:

Thanks Rose! I woke up feeling better today. I must have slept on my left side because my left ear hurts. I am just going to take it easy for a while and see if it calms down. My ears are supersensistive and I want to make sure it's not something else before I exercise. My doctors have toyed with diagnosing me with a pretty serious condition that has to do with the ear. It would explain the vertigo I used to have a lot. It's complicated so I'll summarize. I just want to make sure that my ear hurts because I slept on it, not because vertigo is in my future.

Tracey-Sending :goodvibes and PD to your DD2. I hope she is back to her old self soon!

princessbride-You too are doing great!

Have a great day everyone!
