Better than Visa Magic Code?

I just canceled the rental after reading an above post about insurance. This was a nice deal but can't afford to risk an accident.

I have a question which may be weird. Say I rent a car with Nation using the '57 ' code. Even though they provide insurance I bought insurance from some other company say progressive or gieco. Now say there is an accident and National will not honor insurance claims since I am not eligible to use the code '57'. can I fall back on the insurance I purchased, or will they walk away too saying that I did not deny national's insurance at the time of rental.

Thanks

Do you have auto insurance at home for a vehicle? Check with your insurance carrier and they should cover you if you are driving a rental. Most major carriers do.

I do not have a car, but I bought insurance from gieco and they said it will cover rental cars. The problem however is that if I accept rental car insurance and the rental car company later reneges then I will have no insurance since for gieco insurance to be activated I have to deny rental car insurance.

You do sign a contract at rental accepting National's Insurance with the 57 and 67 codes.
Folks that are assuming they will can "switch" coverage at will need to ask questions to their insurer directly. Specify with your insurer that the contract for those codes INCLUDES insurance. See what your insurer says.

Should there be a problem, National's insurance would begin to evaluate the claim and the contract details would be looked at closely. After a period of at least weeks, IF you hear from National your claim is disallowed (due to the renter being an unauthorized code user) you'd then probably try to call your auto/credit card insurer. They would certainly be going over all the previous rental car paperwork with a finetooth comb. I would be amazed if they opted to step into a situation like this.

This situation is entirely different than when a renter DECLINES National's insurance, because the renter has their own guaranteed by their auto insurer or credit card.

Sorry meant to start a new thread

which is nothing new.

After reading this WHOLE EMAIL  I am now Executive Level for National (THANK YOU ALL!!). I want to rent a Mini Van for 2 weeks. Without logging in I used the 67 code and the $35 coupon getting a rate of $389.22 which is great but now i read that I can get a free upgrade? So I went to the website and logged in for the Emerald Club and picked the car right before the mini van but that just gave me the rate for that car (ex. luxury or standard SUV) not upgraded for free to a mini van.

HELP!! what am i doing wrong?

We are in the same situation. With Exec. aisle, you may choose from that aisle or Emerald Aisle. You need to reserve a full size car and that is what you are guaranteed. If there is a minivan on either of these aisles, you may take it, but you are taking a chance on not getting a minivan this way. The only way you are guaranteed a minivan is to reserve it, but you pay the full price this way. BTW, when you reserve the fullsize you get the midsize price. Hope this makes sense.

You mean THREAD and not EMAIL, but I won't give you tooo much of a hard time :goodvibes.

As I understand it, you don't get a real upgrade. Instead you pay for a mid-sized car and you are able to select a car from the "Executive Aisle" instead of the "Emerald Aisle". The Em Aisle usually has full size and mid-size cars with some small SUV-types scattered in. The Ex Aisle has bigger, fancier cars and sometimes they have minivans. If you NEED a minivan, then you will have to book and pay for one and then you will be able to select it from the Emerald Choice section for minivans. Sorry :(.

ETA: I just found this on National's website:
Only National offers the Executive Selection - a special area of our lot featuring fullsize and higher class cars. Simply reserve a midsize or fullsize car, bypass the counter, choose your car and pay only the reserved midsize rate. Every time you rent from the Executive Selection, you receive an upgrade. As an Emerald Club Executive member, you always pay for one car class less than reserved when you book a fullsize through luxury car. (For example, if you rent a premium car, you only pay the fullsize rate.)
So, your minivan does not qualify :(.

Just reporting back on my success last week. We booked a full size using the 57 code and the ND2119071Q coupon, with the Executive Status and got a Toyota Avalon for $92 (total) for the week. No problem with the pick up or drop off (dropped off at Dolphin).

My sister picked up a car, economy, and got a PT Cruiser for about $70 for the week. Picked up at MCO and dropped off at TPA.

Both of us checked out at the gate, no counter or kiosk lines.

Just got back and used the 67 code with no problem. Got a Grand Caravan for 10 days for $237 including all taxes!

Did you reserve a minivan or did you luck out on one of the aisles?

Reserved a Minivan from Emerald Reserve. Just as good as Emerald Aisle....straight to the aisle and pick out your van.

:thumbsup2
Used contract ID 8572967 and the ecoupon NF1982JDD($30 off) and got $165.33 for a Minivan, 7 days 5/3- 5/10. Also will be checking back to see if we need to be a member of something to use the mystery code above. Maybe I should call National about the code as well.

These are the best rates I've gotten for our upcoming trip.

Just back and used the 67 code at MCO with no questions asked. I previously signed up for Emerald Club (free from mousesavers) so bypassed the counter. Free additional driver nice perk.

So did you just add on the driver at the gate?

I just gave them my Emerald Club card at the gate and showed both DH& my driver's license and they added his name as the free authorized driver.

Awesome, Thanks !!:dance3:

Bumping the link to FlyerTalk and how to upgarde to Executive Emerald for free.

had a cold/blinked &, almost missed this thread:woohoo:  thanx

Q - sorry if it's been answered, didn't see it addressed...

thinking it won't be an issue:confused: , jik...if i have an existing ressie that i didn't add my EA info to (as in i was waiting until i knew which rental car company i'd be using as to rate before travel before modifying it & adding); can i just add my new excutive status (same EA number) and proceed to the executive aisle OR must i rebook entirely & start ressie anew?popcorn::

You keep your old EA#...but I did modify(say you were changing your car-but still select a midsize) my ressies and reprinted them with the Exec level. The price was still the same.
