Better than Visa Magic Code?

I already have a great rate using the Visa Magic code. When I tried it today it had gone up--you won't believe this--by over $1000!!!!!!!!!!!! So now I am worried about using --87. My dates are Dec. 28 - Jan. 6 and Alamo's rates are also out of sight. I do belong to AARP, but no rates can match the $274 I have with --87 ($1315 today!!!) and $196 I have with --67. So is --87 safe?

I think if you've already booked it, that's a start-you have a good rate locked in. Keep an eye on the boards and see what folks' experience is at the counter. I think it's a very good sign it was advertised at Moussavers. You can always book a backup, as long as you cancel within the rules. I sometimes have two National reservations for the exact same time until I figure out which I'm going to use. I never keep both, though. I always cancel one. That Visa Magic Code rate didn't include a second driver, and National wouldn't let me add our Emerald club # so we would have been charged for a second driver. The free spouse (second driver) is a great benefit of AARP bookings.
Don't quit checking AARP, by the way. Their rates can really vary, especially as you get closer. They can really go down. I had a rate of 200 or so for 5 days, went to 148, and today I have a premium vehicle for 5 days at 83.00 (With a 30.00 off coupon already applied.)
We are transporting some family members with mobility issues, so we really need a specific size vehicle. I'm a happy camper, now! :thumbsup2
Good luck! Sometimes I think booking rental cars is like looking for the Holy Grail! :rotfl:

Note that codes which bring up a rate code that include insurances , waiver etc included in the price, are from a foreign travel agency that is booking cars for people out of the country who do not have insurance in the U.S.

I don't know why National offers foreigners better rates than U.S. citizens, but that appears to be the case. Anyway, it's possible that a counter agent could ask to see your passport. I have heard of it happening twice, and both times the agent then said "but I'll let it go this time". Hope you're all as lucky!

If the code will save you big bucks, you might want to risk it. However, if it is only saving you a little, might be worth the peace of mind just to use the Kroger 6600334 code or the regular Emerald Code or the Entertainment code and not worry.
:confused3

Thanks for posting the reason some codes include the insurance. I could never figure out why and now it makes perfect sense! That said, I will now keep a close watch on the 87 Visa code and hope no one has problems as I have a great rate with that code.

Funny because it did allow me to enter my EC ID. This trip I won't need an extra driver (just a 6 year old and I). I will keep watching AARP rates. I did notice on my e-mail confirmation for the --87 reservation that my country of residence is listed as USA, so it would be hard for National to claim that I'm not eligible because this code is not for US residents.

I also had no trouble adding my emerald club code. In fact I called National recently with a question about something else and just double checked that my dh would be able to drive the car on this reservation and was told that a spouse at the same addresss was an authorized driver for Emerald Club members. He was not considered an additional driver which would have been a charge. She was very specific about the difference between "authorized" and "additional".

That said, I am also a bit worried about the way the rates have changed. I think there must have been a mistake in the way the code functioned and they now have fixed it.

Is the Visa "87" code an international code that I need to worry about? I thought I was okay since I found it on mousesavers.

I used the 87 code on our trip last week..no problem. I didn't even pay with a Visa Card. I also have a ressie with this code booked for October

I have no idea what is. I just tried it since there was a code for 57 and 67, I thought that I would try 77. Better lucky than good.:rotfl2:

*77 was talked about long ago. Someone called Natl at that time and was told it is for International Travel Partnership. So, probably involves as much risk as the others.:sad2:

What is code 5063773? Does anyone know what company it's linked too? Right now I have a mid-size SUV for $302 using my Entertainment info for 8/21 - 8/29.:scared1: Would really like a lower rate!:surfweb:

That is the Carlson Code, I believe. Which is a travel agent's code. Many people have used it with success. Use at your own discretion. :)

I have a res booked for 7/24 - 8/4 using the visa code. I tried it again this morning to check & the rate that I have is $377, today it was $978 and did NOT include any of the ins. or anything. OUCH!!!

The 57 code dropped it to $249. What a dilemma on which to try!

Did you try the 67 then? That code seems to be more universal for use. I think it will be fine though, I would give it a try! That is a nice savings!

I just tried my Sam's Club code again and it lowered my full size, 10 day rental in June from 276.00 to 199.00!!:cool1: The code is 5026004. Also, tried the Kroger code someone mentioned earlier and it was 211 total (not bad), that code is 6600334. These do not incl. the ins., but my CC covers that. Hope these might help someone!!:goodvibes

Pretty happy myself!! :dance3:

BTW, we are flying into Tampa...

For the 67 code do I Have to sign up for the emerald club or something.....

No, you do not have to be an emerald club member, although there is a link on Mousesavers.com where you can sign up for free.

Again, just be aware you may be asked for TA ID when using the 67 code.
