My wife, daughter and 75 yo MIL will be in California next week and are planning to go to either Disneyland or California Adventure. They can only do one park. Which would be better considering my MIL's age. She won't ride any rollercoasters for sure. BTW she may be 75 but she is a young 75 in excellent health. Any insights will be appreciated..

Hands down DISNEYLAND!!!
This past week was my first time seeing California Adventure and the way it's laid out requires so much walking. I understand all you do is walk at Disneyland too, but there just seems to be one way and one way only to attractions at CA. And not as much shade at CA as there is at Disneyland. We had hopper passes so we did do both, but if I could only do one, it would ALWAYS be Disney. CA is like a really nice upgraded carnival in my opinion, with Disney flair, but nothing can compare to the fun of the original Disneyland. There's so much more she can do and enjoy at Disneyland.

I agree, Disneyland. Although its a shame for her to miss Soarin Over California and the Aladdin show. But I took my 70 year old mom and my 80 year old dad to DL a couple of years ago and they loved Disneyland the best. If the fireworks are going the night they are there, definitely see them. When I see Remember with my parents or my fil, I prefer to see them back by Its a Small World. More places to sit, fewer crowds, a bathroom nearby and the projections on Small World are a show in itself. I would also not say no to all fast rides. Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash (which is closed for your visit unfortuantely) are all rides my fil and dad enjoyed. Unless she has health concerns that warrant her not to ride anything fast, I wouldn't necessarily rule them out, Disney fast rides are tame by other theme park comparisons.

Thanks so much for your quick responses. Sounds like Disneyland it is..

How much of a coaster is space mountain. Too much for the older crowd?

Responding to the OP, I too would vote DL.

It is common knowledge that Disney coasters tend to be pretty tame by today's standards. The only one at DLR that is towards the extreme end is California Screamin. Many older people ride Disney coasters and are fine with them.

Space Mtn falls into this category. Between Space Mtn, Big Thunder Mtn, and Matterhorn, they are all of comparable intensity. That is, not all that intense, but probably too intense for some seniors. It depends on the person.

I agree with what Hydroguy said. Extreme coaster is definitely Screamin at CA. Everything at Disney is pretty tame eventhough some are classified as "coasters". Space Mountain is pretty fast, but no faster than the others. I think the fact that it's in the dark does intensify it. Although it's no longer "pitch black"...it's still a fun ride. It really does have to depend on the person and/if they have any health conditions. I will say this though...I rode all the coasters and for a tamer ride sit in the front.......the front of any coaster seems to go slower on any drops since the back is still climbing up a hill while the front is already halfway down.
