Better Enforcement of Rules

In lieu of the thread about If the Big Cheese is Reading, I noticed several responded that they would like to see better enforcement of rules.

Just curious as to which rules you would like to see enforced.

Would that include leaving thermostats at the Disney preset temperatures in order to reduce electric bills and be environmentally correct? ;)

What rules would you like to see enforced and what new rules would you like to see added.

My main one would be enforce NS in NS units and have those that abuse it pay a penalty.

In addition to the NS/S, I'd love to see enforcement of the check-out time. I find it appalling that people stay past check-out time, inconvenience everyone, and never get penalized.

More of a POS rule, but I think the point morphing issue needs to be enforced. I guess they can't really enforce it until the computers are... well.... whatever they do to fix computers.
I read here a month or so back that the MS computers were getting set to recognize previous home resort points and use years. I haven't heard whether or not the fix was actually in yet.

The DIS board members would like "selective" rule enforcement. (That's where the rules they LIKE get enforced and those they don't they still get to ignore LOL!)

Probably the most accurate statement to date. :rotfl:

I really think the check-out and NS/S rules should be enforced.

The motion/infared sensor on the thermostat is annoying, but you do expect to be comfortable in your room. You get a choice with the towel service, hang up or put on the floor. Why not with the thermostat?

Occupancy rules should be enforced. Four to a studio means four, not five.

Other then the above, nothing else really comes to mind. Point morphing is Disney's problem, the need to fix thier tracking software. Transfer rule appears to be enforced now.

My new rule would be totally non-smoking.

DVC will eventually be forced to go totally N/S for employee health and insurance reasons, and that's probably the biggest rule change I'd like to see.

As far as enforcement, their hand is pretty light, but that's okay most of the time. Just stating a rule usually produces the desired effect, and I think Disney has a pretty accurate picture of which rules they actually have the ability to enforce.

But see that is the catch with most rules, they bother some they don't bother others. Smokers would say, its my home why can't I smoke, others will say I am hot let me over ride the thermostat.

We are always very comfortable at SSR with the thermostat set on the Disney standards, we always go in July or August and never over ride it.

This one I think you will eventually get. ;)

I'd like them ALL enforced and those that are not spelled out to be so. I'd also like the resort to go all NS or at least smoking to be strictly enforced with a large fine.

Well, ALL of them, but the ones that cause the biggest concern for me are those already mentioned...
Enforce the Non-smoking in AND AROUND non-smoking buildings.
Enforce the check-out time.
I would have monetary consequences to both of the above if those rules are broken.
Enforce the occupancy limits the SAME WAY for everyone.
Enforce the POS rules as they are written, and not at the whim of what MS or an individual agent at MS interprets them to be.
Enforce the "point morphing" problem.
Enforce the room reserved policy by when the ressie was made rather than by the time you check IN.

I would like to see firmer enforcement of the non-smoking rules. Includingthe balconies of non-smoking rooms. While they're at it - I would like to see more non-smoking buildings as the smell still seeps into the room if someone is smoking nearby.

I'm ok with a smoking room/floor/building, however they want to enforce it.

The thermostat isn't a DVC rule, it falls along the same line as they "recycled" resort mug! How about them reusing them to save the enviroment! LOL

I think you're kinda comparing apples to oranges here aren't you? The NS issue is a matter of health and infringing upon the health and comfort of others whereas the thermostat issue is one of comfort. When you shell out tens of thousands of dollars to buy in and another 1,500 plus in dues you should be able to be comfortable in your room. We also go in August when it is very hot and can't help but notice how Disney super-cools all of their common areas so we should be able to cool our rooms.

If you check-out late at a hotel, they will charge you an extra night!

OK, I really gotta ask the obvious question........

Do you REALLY want DVC and WDW to enforce each and every rule that is exists or, by and large, does it actually work fine the way it is? I find that most people really don't like zero-tolerance programs of any sort. Want proof? How many of us exceed the posted speed limit each and every day? We would be incensed if we were pulled over and ticketed for doing 27 mph in a 25 mph zone, wouldn't we? I think DVC seeks to find a balance that everyone can live with.
