Serving people is hard work. Yes, the servers choose this job, but believe me, servers get abused sometimes. They earn every cent that they make. I wait tables as a side job, and the treatment I receive sometimes is deplorable. At the restaurant where I work, I have the option to add a 15% gratuity to a table of 6 or more guests. Most of the time I do NOT add the tip. There have been times when the gamble has not paid off. For example, I remember a party I waited on that had 10 adults and 5 children. Bill came to roughly $200 or so. Can you believe that I got $10 and a glowing comment card?
Everyone has bad days. Most servers enjoy what they do, but sometimes everything goes wrong. Cut them a little slack and remember that you're on vacation!
