Please can anyone let me know if they have been to the Best Western in the last few months as I am having a mad panic about the hotel.

The reason being is that we are due to go at the end of February and spend a week in Clearwater. However, I found out today via a different website and by confirming with the hotel that they were due to be closed down as of March 2006 to be knocked down but have now had it extended until July 2006 although they were refurbished etc. in 2004. They say everything is still running as normal but I am a bit annoyed that BA, who I booked the holiday with, did not make us aware of this fact and I now have concerns about going. I am going to call BA tomorrow and have a moan but also wondered if anyone else had any experiences like this or do you think I am making too much of it?

Thanks

I dont think your making too much of it, my parents are supposed to be staying here in October with Virgin & we have not heard anything!!!
May i ask where you got the info?

I'm sorry I don't have any information about the hotel neil2jo. I just wanted to say that last year I changed the accomodation on my BA booking at least 4 times. Not once did I have to pay an amendment fee, they were fantastic, so if you decide to change I'm sure they'll be helpful.

Tracycooper, hopefully Virgin will also be helpful to you.

Good Luck Guys! :)

Hi TraceyCooper. I did post something on this on one of the previous threads where you and I were talking about this hotel but I guess you have not seen it yet.

I followed a link to tripadvisor.com which give reviews about various hotels and found the Best Western there. One of the reviews still rates everything highly and then says somehting like 'the staff are still friendly even though the place is going to be knocked down soon'. There is also a note next to the hotel which says closing March 2006. This is what made me panic as we are staying there 3rd to 10th March. I then phoned the hotel direct to get confirmation and the guy I spoke to said it has now been extended to July 2006 but may be extended longer.

From my point of view I don't think BA will do much as they only deal with 2 hotels in Clearwater and the other one is the Sheraton and is double the price. I will have to see what they say tomorrow.

Thanks Mumof2 but as I have just said to traceycooper, the only other hotel that BA seem to deal with in Clearwater is the Sheraton and double the price. I can't really afford the extra cost so close to the holiday when we are getting our spending money together, but thanks for letting me know that you have changed details with them at no extra cost.

I think i will have to phone virgin for my parents, in a way it will be a blessing as my parents wanted to stay in the same hotel as us, (hilton) as this is where we are getting married, but when they booked the Hilton was not available & when it became available they made it sound very complicated to my parents to try to change the booking so they left things as they are.
Are virgin direct open today?
Good luck with your arrangments

I don't know if Virgin are open today but if you do get to speak to them would you mind letting me know what they say and likewise I shall let you know what BA say tomorrow.

Just phoned parents, mum seems pretty layed back about it!!!
She is a lot more chilled than me!! She said 'well they will put is another hotel' & i pointed out that yes they will but it might be in another resort like St Petes!!!
Argghh we decided to get married abroad cos we thought it would be less stressful!!
Any way i said if they want to ring themselves or let me know & i'd ring for them, will let you know ASAP

stayed there last August, the hotel was in great condition and the staff were great, especially the Old lady behind the bar. They were all aware that is was going to be knocked down and Condos were going to replace it. If the date is put back why worry, just enjoy it, it is in a great location.
