Hi everyone!
After walking around in the heat and humidity yesturday with my 7 week old in the infant carrier, I have scratched my plans for a quick trip to the World in May or end of Aug. I would be too hot to be carrying him in it, even though the Baby Bjorn is great and didn't hurt my back. I just can't bring myself to take my son when it is so hot at his early age.

We have not been in Oct. for about 4 years. We usually like to go week before Thanksgiving, but DD 5yo likes to swim and it is often too chilly there at that time. I was thinking about a trip in Oct. still warm enough for swimming but not too warm, right?
I would like opinions/suggestions on the best week in Oct. to go. It will be myself, DH, DD5yo, and DS7mo. More than anything we really hate crowds. Oh, we will be staying on-site and have our own car, if that info is important.
Thanks for any help:D

We always go in October and prefer the week after Columbus Day weekend. Crowds are low and weather wonderful. However, this year with the Fairytale Package that is being offered, I think October will be big time crowded. Finally good news for the Disney Company, the cast members and their hours and hopefully the hiring freeze will defrost. Mary at mousesavers thinks every room at Disney will be sold because of this package and I think she's probably right. I think this year we'll wait and go to WDW in early December and probably head to Anaheim instead in October.

Good point, I didn't think about that. I'm sure that package will increase crowds for that time of year. I did check out that package and can see why people are taking advantage of it. Maybe I will too.

Any other opinions? Maybe end of Sep to early Oct? It's value season, but how about the weather/crowds that week?

I have the very same question. We are planning a trip in the Fall and were considering October as well. I am worried about the impact on the new package. Does anybody else have any thoughts about crowds? What about the first week in October? We are going with another couple that wants to swim (we are renting a house with a pool). Is it too risky for swimming the first week of November?

You might want to double-check that. I believe that value season normally ends around the end of September, and most of October is Regular season.

Value season then kicks back in during November.

Being a veteran of two late-September visits, I can tell you that it will still be very hot and humid. We had temps in the mid-80s to mid-90s with high humidity both times. It's also hurricane season, so there's a good chance of rain. Things were pretty dry for us back in '97, but in '02 we had nearly a half-day of rain for 3 or 4 days of our stay.

We've already decided that another September trip for our family is unlikely. Next time we'll wait for November and the more temperate climate.

Wow, I'm starting to rethink my Oct. plans!:(
I'm starting to think about the week before thanksgiving again. We've had luck with this time of year before.

But, I was kinda hoping to be able to take advantage of that great Fairytale package being offered, oh well, maybe not.

Oh, let's have more opinions please to help me decide:confused:

I undstand Oct is more crowded than Sept but it wont be as bad as peak season. Yes Disney will be selling the FT but it doesnt apply to all room. The disounts normally only apply to a certain mount of room. Aneyway we have a back up plan since we are going in Oct. If its to crowded Im agoing back again right after Christmas to the first Jan. Be we have to hit MNSSHP atleast once!

We went in late October last year and the crowds were minimal. We did the MK on a Tuesday & Thursday and did the other parks on the weekends. Got all the PS times we wanted as well as our tickets to MNSSHP. Parking was great in the lots, we weren't even far enough out to bother with the tram. It was a little warmer than I expected, but the locals said it was unusually warm so I guess it was a fluke. We liked it so much we are going again this year, just after Columbus Day!

I'm not sure what week it is, but there is a golf tournament in Oct.
We were there in 1999 during it and it was SO crowded. The crowds weren't as bad as the hurricane that hit our first two days though;) .
It was also extremely hot that year but I don't think that is the norm.

Do you guys really feel that October will be that much more crowded because of the FT package? We are going 09/26-10/05 and to be honest if it wasnt for these boards, I would not have been aware of this deal. I'm sure that it will pick up business for Disney but I also think that alot of people were already planning the vacation and was just able to get a better deal with the
FT package.

Hi guys

I know that the canadian thanksgiving is usually in early october, and the fairy tale package is going to be very tempting to a lot of us. I am trying to convince dh right now! I think it will be the same weekend as your columbus day. this may impact on the crowds, maybe.
As far as the fairytale package goes, I would not be suprised if disney did a large tv campaigne on this one in the near future. So everybody will know about it. Of course the advantage of mary's site and this board is that we will be able to pick our resorts and times before the general public knows!
Thanks Mary!!!!

We are going for our thanksgiving which is October 11. There is also a canadian at par deal coming out soon which expires oct. 31st and has a few more of us Canadians planning trips.
Heat I can handle, but I was also really hoping for low crowds.

We're going on Oct 17th...we thought we'd head down after the Columbus Day/Canadian Thanksgiving weekend & it would be "quieter". Now I've read that the big Disney Golf Tournament starts on October 18th. But as far as I'm concerned (or should I say "hoping") it has to be "less crowded" than summer as most kids are in school...so as long as it isn't quite as hot as July/August, we can handle it. It's not the crowds I find hard to handle (I really didn't mind the July/August crwods), it's the heat :)

If cost is an issue, the value season ends 10/1. However, if you arrive before or on that date, you get value rates for the whole stay. That's why we're going to be there 10/1-10/8.

It'll be a bit busier, say, than after Labor Day, but with a few MNSSHPs, less rain and ( hopefully) longer hours, we think it'll be a great time to go.

We are going 10/30-11/7. I looked up the average weather for that time of year. The average highs are in the mid 80's-- with the lows in the mid 50's. Little rain fall for that time-- just far enough past hurricane season. However, the "average" temps started to cool over the following weeks. However, since there is no exact science to the weather--- I guess I'll take whatever we get and be happy we're in Disney. Just thought I'd let you know it could still be warm and humid.
