Can anyone tell me what the best way would be for our family to see the Christmas decorations (decorated campsites) at FW? We are looking at Dec. 18th, if that matters. We are trying to decide between the hayride (are these usually crowded - how far in advance do you need to get in line), book a private Carriage Ride, or by bus? Thanks for your help! :santa:

A golf cart would probably be the best choice, wagon ride/carriage would also be good. We walked around from 100- 800 loops and saw a lot..

I'm not 100% certain but I don't believe the hayride goes through the campground loops. The private carriage is a very nice way to see the loop decorations, but you will be limited to those near the marina. I would recommend walking to the loops near the marina and then hop a bus to loop 1600 (which usually has a huge walk-thru display) and ask the driver if there are other loops you should see. You definitely want to get off of the bus to really see the decorations. Also, ask the folks in 100 and 700 where the Christmas Castle is and make sure not to miss that, it is a MUST SEE (thanks DaveinTN!). THE BEST WAY however is to rent a cart and go looping through the campground at your own pace. But that would not be convenient to arrange for a single evening.

We were thinking of doing this for our upcoming trip. But I don't understand what you mean by "that would not be convenient to arrange for a singel evening". Could you please explain? Also, how much are golf clubs to rent and how long would it probably take us to "tour" the campsite's Chirstmas decorations?

Thanks so much.

We are not GC folks and I think the last time we rented one was back in the early 1980's, but this coming trip over Xmas we have reserved one on Xmas eve to just drive around the CG and see the decorations. It's only for one day since IMHO it's really not needed in general over a long term stay which for use is usually in the 45day stay at FW once a year.

I just meant that getting to the Fort early enough to rent the cart, touring (preferably after dark), returning the cart using the key drop (I'm assuming that's an option still), and catching other transportation might be a bit much. It would be more doable if you were staying at the Fort. There's just a lot more to renting a cart than a watercraft (for instance).
