Best way to move out of one resort to another?

Have had AKV since 2007, and while it was great when the kids were younger, we never want to stay there because it's too far away from everything. The only resort we really look at now is BLT, as everyone loves the ability to just walk over to MK in under 10 mins.

Considered selling AKV and buying BLT, but don't really want to do that if it means a significant loss of money. I'd be willing to pay a bit more with the understanding that I'd be adding years on to my contract (as my AKV is already 13 years in), but it's not really worth it to simply get the 11 month booking window on BLT at a significant cost.

Anyone have advice on essentially moving from one resort to another?

Switching to BLT only extends your expiration by 3 years. If you are able to get BLT when you want to travel at the 7 month mark, then it might not be wortwhile to switch.

That said, AKL is still in the $95-$115 range on the resale market, depending on the size of your contract, and BLT is going for $130-$150 (at quick glance). So you'll pay a difference of ~$35 per point to switch (not counting broker fees and the like). Whether it's worth it depends on whether you need/want that 11 month window and the extra 3 years of DVC ownership.

Do you stay in studios, 1 bedrooms, or 2 bedrooms?

If 1 bedrooms then picking up a BLT 1 bedroom at 7 months should be available most times of the year. The problem is that it's more points.

Is your AKV contract purchased directly from Disney, or resale? If you have some perks now due to direct ownership, you could lose those if you sell it and buy resale - may or may not be important, but could be part of your decision.

Seems like a switch would like cost you money and/or points. But there are times of the year where BLT at the 7-month mark could be challenging.

If you can just purchase points at BLT also then do split stays when you go to get best of both resorts. You can always try to increase your stay at BLT if the opportunity becomes available.
