Best way to make reservations for extra nights?

My fiance and I are driving down to Disney World in January and had planned on stopping at cheap motels for both nights (on the way to and from), splitting the drive into two days. With the new room discounts available for early 2013, we decided we'd really rather just stay the two extra nights at Disney and get full days out of our first and last day. We can make the drive in one day no problem (10-13 hours depending on traffic), we were just wondering what the best way to go about making the reservations is.

Our current 9 night stay is booked under the Stay/Play/Dine package, so we'd want Room Only discounts for the two extra nights we'd be staying. Is it possible to add it on to our existing reservation and still get RO? Or should we book the rooms separately (for a total of three reservations)?

Unless you extend your package to include the additional nights, you will have 3 separate reservations. A 1-night room-only, the 9-night package, a final 1-night room-only. You will want to request that all 3 reservations be linked with notation that you'd prefer not to change rooms. It's not guaranteed that you can have the same room across the multiple reservations, but likely as long as they are linked. You will need to check-in and check-out for each reservation, though.

Enjoy your vacation!

Me and my kids like to use those room only nights to try out new places - if you don't mind moving it's a really fun way to check out different resorts. We always pack one small bag with everything we need in the room for that one day, that way we don't have to get into any of our other luggage until we check in to the main hotel for our package :)

I had one other thought. IF you can move your existing package forward by one day you could then book a 2 night room only reservation at the end. And of course have the reservations linked. The dining credits would carry over til midnight of the first day of your RO stay.
