We are planning a day trip to Kennedy Space Center. Currently trying to explore our options if we don't rent a car.

Tickets from KSC website is $190 (tax included) for 2A 2C.
Undercover tourist is $325 (tax included plus bus from our hotel).
Mears rate is $188 for a sedan car rental to KSC.

Are there any other options that we can explore?

Consider a 1 day car rental ($50-$100 range depending on dates and vehicle size needed). You could visit Cocoa Beach while you are in the area (of KSC) and do a grocery/bevie run on your way back to your resort.

I was going to suggest taking a space shuttle, but that might be slightly more expensive. ;)

Gray Line runs daily bus trips to Kennedy Space Center for $59 per person ($99 if you want admission to KSC included). Pick up locations within Disney looks like Swan Resort and All Star Music Resort at around 8AM returning between 6 and 7. Need to reserve.

IMHO a car would be a better option for you. If you are staying on-site Disney, an Alamo 1 day rental from the Car Care Center for your approx dates (Dec 22-23) looks like it would cost you about $65 taxes incl for a mid-size. Maybe another $25-30 for gas and tolls, and your still way ahead of the game.

Thanks for taking time to work the sums for me. Was trying to see if there are any options that I could have considered before renting a car. As we are non - US residents, I would have to include CDW in my rental for $24.99 per day. Will this coverage be enough? Or I should add Extra Protection at $12.44/day?

The regular LDW should be fine.
A lot of credit cards have this coverage included. You may want to check if one of your cards has LDW coverage and use that one to book/pay for the vehicle.
If your card has coverage, you can decline the extra insurance.

If you are thinking of renting a vehicle, there are several agencies on the WDW grounds. Some will even come pick you up at your resort (Enterprise comes to mind)

A little info pros/cons of renting http://allears.net/pl/rentcar.htm
