Ok, this is a little complicated. We will be staying at Port Orleans. We will be there for 13 days/12 nights. Half way through our grandson has to go back home. Now the problem. Someone has to take him to the airport (he is only 6). He could take the bus to the airport with his DME ticket, but the person taking him to airport can't because they will need theirs for later in the week, plus they won't have one for the trip back from the airport. What is the best (cheapest) way to get him to the airport?

Around $100 plus tip will get you to the airport and back via towncar. There are many great town car companies recommended here and we love Tiffany Towncar.

You can try and find a resonable rate on a one day car rental. Try renting from the WDW locations or downtown Disney for ease in picking up the car and returning it.

Alternately - when you arrive at your resort go to guest relations and see if there is an option for one adult to ride DME with him each way. If that doesn't work call DME from your room (the phone has a direct dial option) and see if they can give you an exception) Generally speaking each person gets one free trip to and from the airport via DME but it can't hurt to ask esp since they won't allow a minor to ride alone.

Another option is to take a towncar to and from the airport as a group and use the complimentary 30 minute grocery stop to save on items for the room like lunches, fruit, water and snacks. Then use your DME vouchers for one person to accompany your grandson to and from???

Or just keep him ..... just sayin ::))

If you want a cheap way to do it... catch the Lynx bus (I think it's number 111 unless it has changed) from downtown disney and it takes you to MCO. It takes about 45-50 minutes because it makes 5-6 stops but the best part is.... It only costs a few bucks per person to ride!! My husband and I did that to get to and from the airport and it was super easy, and had no problems. Hope that helps!

Might be cheapest to rent a car for a day (or less) and drive there/back. I'd expect a car for a day to be ~$50 with all taxes/fees.

One of the things I love about Disney is how accommodating they are!!! :lovestruc

I have gone to the airport and found out that I was snowed in and had to stay in Disney for another two days ( I love WI LOL). Disney made sure that we would be taken care of, even though they didn't need to.

Talk to the concierge at your resort and they will help you out. Sometimes they will get you a driver, sometimes they will be able to give you an extra magical express ticket (I haven't ever heard them say~"sorry buddy, you're on your own"). If it makes you more comfortable, call and ask them before you go there. Often the people at the resort are most helpful, but give it a shot! I hope it works out well for you guys. :)

Thanks so much for the ideas. We wish we could keep him for longer, but getting him for the few days was a battle.

I second the rental car thought. That way you can go right with him, into the airport and get him to whomever is going to take charge of him. You should be able to get a car for not too much money. You can rent through Alamo/National at the Dolphin..which is then a very easy drive to the highway.

Rent a car.....for sure the lowest cost option. You can book a rental and cancel without penalty if the resort comes through with DME or something else for you.

I would book the rental and then talk to the conceirge at the resort after your arrive.

The towncar doesn't sound like the best idea. Sounds like her grandson will be flying as an UM. Grandma will want to stay with him until takeoff. I am sure the towncar would charge a fortune for "wait time" while she gets there early, checks him in, goes thru security, waits to see the flight leave.

I agree with just calling Disney and asking if you can use ME. A one day car rental would be your next best bet.

The town car doesn't wait....you book a round trip and they drop you off and then come back to pick you up later. It's the same as taking you to a resort and then coming back a week later to take you to the airport.

I understand that, we often use town cars. You wouldn't want the car to wait anyway as the adult would have to accompany the minor until the plane takes off, the towncar would return presumably 3 or so hours later.

I do agree though that this isn't the best option unless the entire family takes the towncar on arrival and departure and one adult and the child use dme to bring the grandson to the airport. I was just putting out lots of options for the OP.

If DME won't give an extra r/t in this circumstance then I also think a rental for a day is a good option. OP - with a code from Mousesavers or other discounts you should be able to find something reasonable. You may also be able to find something without a cancellation penelty in case DME comes though :)
