Best way to get from one resort to another?

A dumb question- a couple of times during our upcoming trip we have meal reservations at other resorts. I'm a pro at using buses to get to parks and back, but what about this? Do I have to take a bus from my resort to a park and THEN to the resort we're eating at?

Yes, you'll need to transfer at a park or DTD. Where to transfer depends on which resorts you're traveling between and what time it will be.

It depends on the resort, of course. From the WL to the Poly you can take the boat to CR and the monorail to the Poly, for example. But most often you have to take a bus to a park, or to DTD, to get o another resort.

Disney transportation can be time consuming when going Resort to Resort.

The Fastest way is to use a Taxi. Most trips like this will run you $20-30 plus tip. Also unless you are required most Restaurants allow Park attire.

What you may want to do is schedule the Resort visits on non-Park days, if you have any. That way you will not feel as rushed heading to your meal.

I myself would never take a taxi for most resort to resort trips, there's always exceptions but in reality it's not that hard unless you're in a time crunch or it's very early or something similar. For example if you're going to MK resort then just head over to the MK and take the monorail or boat to the resort. The same thing if you're going to an Epcot resort either go to Epcot or DHS and walk or take the boats to that particular resort. You kinda just have to think where you're at and where you want to go,if you're at the Contemporary and want to go to AKL, walk over to the MK and grab the bus. You're at Coronado and want to go to Saratoga Springs, take the bus to DTD and walk over.Find the closest and easiest route from where you're going to where you want to go and since many of the resorts you usually want to visit are near the parks that makes it easy, but yeah in some situations a cab would be the best choice.

The absolute highest fare you could ever get on property for a taxi ride is about $30 (for Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Grand Floridian). Most trips are under $20. Most of the hotels are just not that far from the rest of the park. Boardwalk to Contemporary, for example, is $20.

And, of course, renting a car is an option. Even for one meal you can often find deals for a one-day rental that actually net out cheaper than taking a taxi. This only is really convenient, though, if you're staying in the Epcot resort area and can walk over to the Dolphin to pick up the car, or are staying at a Downtown Disney area hotel and use one of their rental desks.

For me, taking Disney transportation from resort to resort is maddening. Waiting for one bus is annoying enough; two busses (or one bus and one monorail/boat) is just too much. The only time I'll do it is from one monorail resort to another, or the Contemporary to WL by boat. From Grand Floridian to WL, I take a cab. It's like $6.

The idea of going to the nearest park and walking is great for the Contemporary, but not much else. The walk from the DHS bus stop to the Boardwalk is probably the next best walk, and that's a good 15-20 minutes. Add another 5 minutes to get to the Beach Club. It's probably even further from the Epcot bus stops (plus you have to enter and exit the park).

When you're spending thousands of dollars to come to WDW, I can't understand spending an hour using Disney transport when a taxi or rental car is soooooooo much faster. But everyone is different. It just comes down to time vs. money.

It all depends on where you are, and where you want to go. Give us the resort you are traveling to, and from which resort. We can then give you better advice.
I'm going down in two weeks. On our last day, we decided to not go to a park. We get picked up for our return to the airport about 12:30pm. But, we are heading to a nice character breakfast that morning. We will be at AoA, and heading to YC/BC for Cape May. So..we'll take the DHS bus and then walk to the resort...it's a nice walk and we have the time. Then, when we're done eating, depending on how we feel, we will either walk back to DHS and take the AoA bus, or if it's getting late, we will just take a cab back..cost should be under $10.

Do the cabs seat 5? Do they take kids with no car seat? We are staying at AoA, our first day is a resort day with dinner at ohana. Was planning to go on the bus to Mk then the boat, how much do you think it would cost for a cab to go to MK? I was planning to leave the hotel at 3, then hanging around the poly with a drink on the beach maybe, our ADr is at 5.

Taxi vans are readily available that can easily seat 5 or more people..

AoA to MK (or TTC) is one of the longest trips staying on Disney property. Plan on around $20 for a cab ride.
