DH has 100K of Chase sapphire points from the old (non-preferred) no fee Chase Sapphire card. Chase no longer offers this card, but DH has had it for 10+ years, so is keeping it. What is the best use of those points? Can he buy an airline ticket with them?

You will need a premium card aka Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Ink Plus to transfer to airlines. You can still buy a ticket through chase portal a $.01 per point though. Chase portal is a bit expensive sometimes, u can probably get a better rate if you transfer it for cashback/statement credit.

The best use of the points in terms of value would be transferring to an airline partner and turning the points into miles. However, the only way to do that would be to have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card or the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card or the Chase Ink Plus business card. You would transfer the UR points from the Sapphire account to the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink+ account. Then, from there you could transfer the UR points to United, British Airways or any of the other airline partners. However, if you are not interesting in getting another card or maximizing the value any more than what they are as is, you can certainly use it as cash for .01 per point.
