We are staying at AKL and was wondering what is the best location transportation for these locations? rental car or Disney bus?

AKL to AK
AKL to Epcot
AKL to DS
AK to MK
AKL to Epcot to DS back to Epcot (is this walk or boat?)
AKL to Hoop Dee Doo

Thank you!

I'm a huge proponent of the buses, but many others will disagree. I have no issue with the slightly longer waits. I hate navigating those parking lots. But, that's just me.
I did travel around with some friends a few years ago in their respective cars. And it was pretty nice. But, they all knew exactly where they were going.

Going to and from theme parks, the bus is perfectly fine. In fact, the bus is the preferred mode to MK, as it can be very time consuming parking at the TTC lot and then having to catch a monorail or ferry to MK when the bus will drop you off near the turnstiles. There is a boat that runs between the International Gateway entrance to Epcot and DHS. So you could take the bus from AKL to Epcot, then the boat to DHS, then a bus from DHS back to AKL.

However, going to resorts it's often faster to drive. Be aware though at FW that you will have to park in the overflow lot at the front of the campground and take a bus back to Pioneer Hall. Since they typically run buses from HDDR back to the resorts after the show, it is still more convenient in my opinion, to just take a bus to MK, and then take the boat from there to FW. Then take the bus back afterward. If you have ADR's at any other resorts and want to drive, you will get there faster by car.

and if you go AKL-->mk by bus then mk-->FW by boat, allow 1.5 hours for total transportation time. We get slammed for the hoop de doo and you want to be prepared in case you don't get on the first boat you see.

There is no reason why you can't use Disney transportation for everything you listed. I have not rented a car for our WDW stays in many years. When I am on vacation at WDW I let them take care of me.

For your AKL to Epcot to DS and back to Epcot. There are the Friendship boats that travel from the Epcot International Gateway to the Studios. They run from early morning until late each day. Along the way they stop at the Epcot resorts. It can take 30 minutes plus the wait time for the boat. You can also walk between these two parks in less time.

For Hopp Dee Doo take the MK bus and look for the boat to the WL.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks! I guess it seems like a waste of time to rent a car....we have always rented a car in the past and we were glad we did....the waterparks we were so glad we had a care when we were all wet instead of a bus....IF we wanted to take our car to Hoop Dee Doo would how much time would we save? If it takes 1 1/2 hours to get there, I think we are going to change our reservation to the 7:00 show! Thanks so much for the replies!

If you take a car to Hoop De Doo, then you have to park your car in the Outpost Lot at Fort Wilderness, which is at the opposite end of the campground from Pioneer Hall.

You would then have to take an internal Settlement Bus to the other end of the campground, then a short stroll to Pioneer Hall. Then reverse the process (an internal Outpost bus) to get back to your car.

Yellow Bus is the fastest, then Purple, with Orange being the slowest.

Also, why don't you spend a couple of hours at Magic Kingdom before going to Hoop De Doo. (Unless that is a non-park day for you). That way, it won't seem like your using up a lot of transportation time.

If you are at the 5:30 Hoop, then head to MK about 2pmish, stroll around, do an attraction or two, then head to the Fort on the boat.

We always do a lot of park hopping and resort hopping, but rarely go to a destination where it takes two buses, or boat/bus, etc.

For example if we're having dinner at Beach Club, we'll spend some time at Studios or Epcot for a bit, then walk over to Beach Club, then have dinner, then after dinner if the parks are closed, then we bus to Downtown Disney, stroll through there a bit, then bus back to our resort. (We have no young kids though, so we generally are night people).

That is a good idea, but I just changed our 5:00 to 7:00, this way it gives us a little more time....we will go to MK and go from there....great idea!
