Best time to visit WDW June or August?

Being that our kids are school age now, we have to travel during the school breaks which in return are peak times:sad2:

Were west coasters and visit DL why more often than WDW. Our last visit was in 2009 in February and September to WDW.

Were planning a 2015 Disney cruise either to start after school is out June 15th or wait until sometime in August. Our school doesn't start until September. We like to have 3-4 days before and after the cruise to visit the parks and that is where I am having a hard time deciding.

During these 2 months, are the crowd levels lower either in June or August or about the same? I know it's summer and will busy but would like to try and pick a less busy time between those 2 months!

Thanks:flower3:

Early June if possible. It's not as hot yet, the afternoon thunderstorms haven't become quite as regular, it's not getting into the heavier part of hurricane season and the crowds tend to be a bit lighter too.

I have never personally been there in June, but I have several close friends who have gone and said never again (heat, crowds, school just getting out). We have gone twice in late August. Crowds were low, and it was great. We are going in late July for 2nd year now in 2 weeks. I really don't mind going in summer at all, especially late August when a lot of kids are already back in school and parks are less crowded :goodvibes

Since you can't go until AFTER June 15, I'd say the late August will be better crowd wise. Value season begins some time around Aug 20 and that last week of August is one of the best to go for low crowds.

Having said that, it will be VERY hot and HUMID. You WILL have afternoon thunderstorms. You WILL need to take afternoon breaks to get out of the heat and humidity. But, late June would not be much better weather wise.

By June 15th the summer crowds will be there.
Wait until the lastest possible Aug. dates you can do. Many of the southern state school start back to school the last week of Aug. For us in TX it is always the 4th Mon of Aug.
As far as the heat, Aug. will be hotter than June.but only by a 2-3 degrees.
Try to take a break either at hotel or inside somewhere from 1-5 in afternoon.

I didn't see the dates. August will be a bit hotter than mid-June, but you're right...crowds will be better as most schools seem to go back around the 2nd or 3rd week of August.

We usually go in the 2nd or 3rd week of August. It's hot and yes there are afternoon storms but the crowds are lower and prices are better. This year we are going the last week of August doing 2 days at WDW followed by a DCL cruise on the Fantasy then back to Disney. When you know what to expect weather wise it's not bad. We take an afternoon break about 3pm. To me I would rather deal with the weather than larger crowds.

Thank you all the replies! We usually take a break midday for rest and swimming as our kids get cranky and need time to themselves.

Since school is not out until June 15th and doesn't go back until after labor day, I'd say August. June is more comfortable weather wise, but still hot. The difference will be the crowds. All the schools are out in the southeast by June 15th that I know of. (GA is often mid-May and SC is start of June for the schools I know of). But most go back in August. South Carolina schools usually start up the 3rd Monday of August. Georgia schools usually go back a week or two sooner. I'm not sure about FL schools other than most go back in August as well. You could look up the FL calendar to know their school schedule.

But even some places in the Northeast have started going to school before Labor Day. Due to a couple of rough winters and getting out much later, many have changed to before Labor Day so there's more room for snow days just in case.

We just went June 14-21. It was hot and humid but not awful. We came back to the resort to swim every day. Crowds didn't bother us at all!
