Best time to go with grandma :)

We are traveling on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend of 2026.
Good idea. The Sunday after Thanksgiving is usually the busiest travel day of the year, no matter how you travel, but Saturday is usually less hectic. We’d travel either Saturday or Monday.

If possible, consider encouraging your mom to take up a regular walking regimen as soon as possible. The more walking she gets used to before the trip, the happier she'll be at WDW. Not to mention how good this is for one's health anyway, with or without Disney.

If she lives near a mall (one that's still open!), many malls have early hours exclusively for walkers. This way, weather isn't a problem. And it's a great place to start because there are places to sit if she gets tired and no hills and usually other people doing the same thing.

Hi friends!

I've been to Disney a few times already, this time I would like to bring my 65yr old mom who has never been! It would be a dream come true for her! So it would be myself, my 8yr old daughter (who has been a couple of times too, she's a trooper) and my mother.

She is not a super active grandma but is working on it. She can still get tired and overwhelmed sort of suddenly depending on circumstances so I need to approach this trip differently and I do accept that we will be going at a slower pace this time.

We usually go in September because of lower crowds but the weather might be too hot and humid for grandma. What would be the ideal time to go to bet a perfect blend of not too extreme heat, not too busy crowds and good promotions? I was thinking mid January or early November? What do you guys think?

Also any other tips for traveling with a cool, but slower grandma? :)

Thank you!!
January would be your best bet! Not too hot for sure. Just be prepared to swim in the cold.

I think November or early December is perfect. You should have good weather and Christmas decorations will be up. My biggest tip with grandparents is have a dinner plan each night. We usually do a table service reservation because by the end of the day, carrying trays and finding tables in a crowded counter service restaurant is a lot and I’ve found my parents do better with a sit down meal. It’s fine at lunch when we a have more patience, lol.

As far as the scooter, it can be helpful but it can also be difficult to maneuver in crowds. One trip my MIL had one and she really struggled with getting through crowded spaces and it stressed me out. She definitely ran into people a few times😬 So if she can walk, I would start there and plan accordingly. Encourage her to start walking at home and bring at least two pairs of broken-in shoes she finds comfortable.

We travelled with Grandma a couple of years ago and the kids loved it. Hope you have an amazing time making memories!
