Best time to cross the border ~ Fort Erie and Windsor

Hi, starting to think about next trip. What time is the best/worst time to cross the border. Don't want to sit hours at the border! S

We crossed at Windsor around 9 PM and had no troubles no wait or anything just went right on through

We have crossed at all times of day and never had any problems. My suggestion though would be to stick with Fort Erie, crossing in Windsor is a scary thing. Detriot is not pretty near the border.

we were crossing the border into Canada near NIagra Falls and we got told to pull over and they went throw everything. it was embarrassing. The next day we crossed over windsor, and detroit had no problems at all for us it was harder for us to get into Canada. and real easier to get into america. Of course that is were we are from. the lady at the gate into canada wasnt pleasant at all.

Detroit isnt all that bad the river is a nice way to cross. you can see the detroit sky line. and they have really cleaned up the city. and there are really nice subburbs in detroit. It is just like any other Big City.. I remember we got off at the wrong exit tring to cross the friendship bridge that is the bridge but niagra fall and got lost and ended up in a reall bad neighbor hood of buffalo new york.

My husband and family are from Detroit and Ypsilanti area. So I have been to Detroit and the surrounding areas, and I would rather be there then in New York city, or los angeles california

We went to Disney last year at the same time as you did,looks like we have the same idea again. We are leaving for Florida April 16 after the last hockey tournament in Whitby. I saw that it is 83* in Florida today so we are really excited, can't wait for some warm weather. We are going to Universal this year staying at Daytona Beach for 5 days then heading over to the Hardrock hotel for 5 days.

My cousin is a customs officer at the Windsor Boarder, she said to make sure that you are not any later than 6 am or you will be waiting for a long time. We went to Ohio in November on a Friday Night and hit the border about 9pm, we waited for about an hour to cross. I have heard that the US custom guards are checking every car coming from Canada going into the USA, they are looking through everybody's cars and trunks. Does anyone know if this true?

Hi Folks:

We are going to be crossing at fort erie on a friday at about 4 p.m. on the l9th april. I wonder how bad that will be, and drive to near beckley w virginia. and stop for the night around ll or 12. We were going to leave early the next day 4.a.m. sat, but decided to try it this way. Now we can leave the beckley area at about 7.30.

Hockeymom: We are thinking about staying in ormond beach for a night or two, have you found any interesting things to do around the daytona area. I always wanted to go to cocoa beach and check out the ron jons, and see the cape canaveral ships that go out in the ocean. Just looking for ideas. Did you pick a garden view at hrh or deluxe room?

Cottontail, we have a deluxe room booked, but I just read on the internet to ask to upgrade to a suite at check in for another $35/night so I am going to try for a kids suite.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few commuters between the US and Canada, so you can sometimes get caught up in that. The key is to have all your family's documents in hand (airline tickets, birth certificates or passports) and be as accomodating as needed they are doing this for everyone's safety so I say search on! Weekends are the worst time to cross the border.
