Hello everyone. Just wondering what would be the best time in Oct. to go to DL? This will be our kids first time. I was reading somewhere that IASW will be closed until the 22nd of Oct. I was wondering If we should wait until after it re-opens or if there's a better time in Oct. to go and do IASW another time? Thanks.

I am gonna be honest... October can be a crazy busy month for several reasons. There's the Mickey's Trick or treat party which is an event which happens randomly through the month. The Haunted Mansion opens with the "Night Mare before Xmas" theme, and also the first weekend in October is "Gay Days" where the Gay and Les can take their families to the park. They wear the color red to promote their event, and so if you have issues against this kind of thing you may want to reconsider. Gay Days this year is from October 1-3rd so anytime after that might be good. The bonus of this time of year though is that you can catch the Halloween fireworks, and the Characters are plentiful!

But the earlier you go in October the better off your going to be. Or wait until November when things can calm down a bit and you might start catching some of the Christmas decorations going up.

Thanks Mystic.

Of course. Ive been during the month of October and I have to say I prefer other months more. But any day at Disney is a good day. If you take full advantage of Fast Passes and go in with a plan you should be good. :) Happy Planning. That's half the fun.

I was pleased to read this. We are going Oct 3-8. I know it will be busy in October but hopefully because we are going early Oct it won't be to bad???

Actually, it might be quite busy that week as it is supposed to be the start of the MTTP, and the local Socal APs aren't blocked out.

But never fear! You can plan around crowds!

I think IASW will be closed at Disney World until October 22 - not Disneyland.

Although you may have more info than I do...

IASW goes down every October to early November to add its holiday overlay. And again in January to remove it. HM too goes down every Sept and again in Jan. See "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889 and "Historical DLR Park Hours, Entertainment and Refurbs" - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2291124.

Should you wait? Unless you go in high season something will almost always be closed as discussed in the above links. Just do your homework.

I think IASW usually goes down later in October though... I don't think it will be up on Oct 22nd, more likely going down for refurb then. If you look at the link Hydroguy gave, last year after they had finished the big overhaul of IASW, it did it's holiday refurb from like October 26-the first week of November or so...

We went last October from the 18th-28th and it was great. :) I read all the info. on here as to what was going on that month and planned around it. The first 2 weeks were apparently extremly busy with Gay Days, Utah school breaks, etc., so I decided to wait until the third week to go. We always go during off season so I am used to those types of low crowds. I was very happy to find that the park was the same as it had been for us during our previous off season trips. From what everybody posted on here, the people who went during the third week, after all the craziness had stopped, found the park pretty uncrowded as I did. I was also surprised that it didn't get overly busy more toward Halloween. When we left on the 28th, it didn't seem any more croweded than it was in the previous week. If I was to go again in October, I would make sure it was after the first 2 weeks, after Gay Days and Utah breaks were over, but I definitely would go back during that month. We loved all the Halloween decorations and Mickey's Trick or Treat party. :)
