We want to do DL this summer. I’m very familiar with WDW but this will be our first time in DL.

I realize June will be nuts, July crowded, and Aug hot. When is the best chance of us getting low crowds? I have a son with severe autism and while we know it will be crowded the chance for him to see Pixar is just too great an opportunity to pass up.

TIA!

First, any day or group of days can be randomly crazy so make sure you are at least prepared for crowds. But if I were you I would go when the most annual passes are blocked out because that always seems to make a big difference in the crowds. The first three pass levels are all blocked on Saturdays in June and July, plus Sunday July 1.

I think July is one of the best times of the year to visit. It will be busy but the parks will be open their longest operational hours with rides running at max capacity.

We love to go the last or second to the last week in August--warmer weather is awesome for water rides. We will be there this year the 17th - 20th and crowd predictions are very low. On the Touring Plans Crowd calendar I think both parks are supposed to be less than a 5 out of 10 that weekend but I couldn't double check just now (my membership expired a few days ago).

The whole Disneyland annual-pass-holder-blockout-thing makes finding certain not-so-crowded weekends a breeze.

We just got back from Easter weekend at DL with 2 kids on the Autism spectrum. I would emphasize the importance of going as early in the morning as you can. Whether it's a magic morning or whatever you can get, use it! Make priorities and follow a plan.

Overall resort is the first figure, DL is the second figure and DCA is the last one.

Hope that helps! :yo-yo:

We love to go the last or second to the last week in August...

Just keep in mind that the lower passholder summer blockouts usually lift sometime around the third week in August, HM usually goes down for the installation of the Halloween overlay sometime around the 20-somethingth, the annual CHOC Walk is now held on the last Sunday of August (this year it's the 26th), and the nightly entertainment schedule usually shifts to the non-peak schedule around the last week of the month.

I think there is a decent chance that the crowds might not be bad on the weekdays (Tue to Thu) for the dates in the Touring Plan crowd calendar, but I'm hesitant to think that the weekends will be anything like 3 to 5s (especially on CHOC walk Sunday). The Saturday blockouts for the Deluxes end on August 18 and the SoCal (and SoCal Select) summer AP blockout ends on Mon, Aug 20. So all, in all, I would guess pretty high crowds on the weekends as the AP holders return to the parks for the first time since the summer blockouts started.

Yes, I definitely have my doubts about the levels on the 26th due to the CHOC walk. We are planning to skip the Saturday and Sunday.

Would you be willing to share what they predict for August 2nd-4th? Feel free to PM me if you would rather! TIA :)

I don't mind at all! BTW, I take all of these figures with a grain of salt! But I find it kind of fun to get a very vague idea, and then I take everything I read on Disboards and make a more educated estimate. And then I just chuck it all, go and have a great time regardless! LOL!

Thank you! I realize that they are never super accurate but I have never been in the summer before so I was curious what they predicted. :)

Oh the decisions. We will be there Wednesday August 22 & fly home Monday August 27. I’m trying to decide what day to go to universal for a day. Before learning the Choc walk date I planned universal for the Friday but now I’m wondering how crazy the Sunday will be in the packs with The choc walk crowds. Maybe we should go to universal on Sunday. I’d rather not finish my trip with universal though.

Your dates should be fine. Even larger crowds during your dates shouldn't be too big of a problem since the parks will be fully staffed and running on peak season schedules. That makes a huge difference in how the crowds will affect you. Peak crowds in the parks with peak hours, most/all rides running at full capacity, with full staffing, with peak season entertainment schedules, etc. combined with good planning and FP/MP skills will make for pretty smooth sailing even during the summer. Take a similar number of guests during a low season time -- recipe for disaster with rides down for refurbs, non-peak staffing, non-peak hours, non-peak entertainment schedules, etc. Those kinds of days feel completely different.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease! We will also have EMH privileges all 3 days(if we can get up!)because we are staying at PPH so I hope that we can get it all done & maybe even take a break in the heat of the day. :) Definitely planning on using Max Pass especially since we will only have one day at DCA but two at DL!
