Best Steak?

I totally agree, and Shulas is not on the DDP, thereby eliminating it from my "can do" restaurants, too expensive as well....I guess we will try yactmans I've heard many yummy things about it :goodvibes

Expensive, maybe but the prices were in line with Le Cellier, at least with what we ordered. And by not being on the DDP, I was not fed the same cut of beef that most the other WDW restaurants serve. Again it's all matter of taste.

maybe this should turn into the best steak available on the DDP thread. ;)

Yachtsman #1, followed closely by Le Cellier. We've never tried Shula's but it's on our list. :cool1:

Best Steak: Shula's

Underrated: Turf Club at Saratoga Springs.

I agree with this completely!! The Turf Club filet was one of the best I've had in my opinion. Le Cellier was waaaaay over rated when it was 1 DDP ticket, and definately silly and not worth it now at 2. I am so looking forward to Yahtman's on our next trip, all I ever hear about that place is excellence. Shula's is probably great, but too expensive at just about $75 pp, I'll stick to the DDP and just have to survive lol.

To everyone that feels Shula's is too expensive and it is pricey, you can get a $25 discount coupon for Shula's at restaurant.com for as little as two dollars. That brings the cost down for a great steak.:thumbsup2

Definitely NOT Shula's. Shula's is serving choice beef at prime prices.

If you want to stay at WDW, go with the Yachtman, Le Cellier or Citrico's. If you really want a great steak get off property and go to Fleming's, Morton's, Del Frisco's, the Capital Grille or the Palm.

I rate Shula's up there with the Capital Grill and The Palm. Much better than the steak I got at Le Cellier. Peter Lugers in NY is about the best I've had though.

Shulas hands down for Disney property. They do serve prime meat, unlike LeCellier. Don't know where previous poster came up with that.

Off property, we really enjoy Charleys.

I really enjoyed the porterhouse at yachtsmans. also the filet at Jikos. agree about Le Cellier being over rated. can't wiat to try Captain's Grille.

The steaks we've tried at WDW, in order of preference:

1. Le Cellier's Mushroom Filet -- We make it a point to try all new restaurants each trip, EXCEPT for LC, just so we can have this steak again!

2. Jiko's Oak-Grilled Filet -- Good quality and great flavor.

3. Tony's NY Strip -- Yes, this one was quite a surprise! My chicken parm was terrible, but DH got this steak...it was flame-grilled and so tasty! Not the highest quality cut, but still one of the best dishes you can order at Tony's.

4. Yachtsman's NY Strip -- Really did not care for this one, especially given the price. It is dry-aged, and to me it tasted more like pork than beef. That combined with bad service has ensured we will not be going back.

Now, we have never tried Shula's, but I have heard it's comparable to a Ruth's Chris and we have eaten there a couple of times. I would put a Ruth's Chris-esque steak house as maybe a 1.5, as they are also very good but in a different way. The quality of the steak is better, but they usually let that be its main selling point, and prepare it very simply, maybe with just a little butter. Which is good, don't get me wrong. But we also really enjoy the way the Le Cellier filet is prepared with its sauce and risotto. Prime steakhouses will have a better steak where sheer quality is concerned. But the single best restaurant meal I have experienced, start to finish, is Le Cellier.

I want to say Shulas - the steak was delicious when we had it but the meal actually gave us terrible food poisioning - a week and a half later my partner was still quite ill. Maybe we got unlucky but I will not be returning.......

Yachtsman however was a good steak with no nasty after effects!

That's a mighty big charge to level at a restaurant.
How do you KNOW it was true food "Poisioning"????

I don't want to cause a stir given that I am new to the boards but I just wanted to reply to the poster who suggested that I was perhaps levelling unwarranted charges at Shulas. I was not trying to offend anyone I just wanted to set out my views in response to the OP.

Now as I said I really really enjoyed my steak there - it was delicious, however, I would not go back because after that meal I was very ill. This was confirmed as food poisoning by my doctor a day later (as we ate at Shulas on our last night). Given that Shulas was the only real meal that I ate that day and given that both I and my partner who ate the same thing at Shulas were both extremely ill with the symptoms of food poisioning I would tend to take the view that it was the food from Shulas that was the cause. I accept that I cannot prove that beyond all reasonable doubt but it seems to be the most logical solution.

I repeat though that the steak was delicious at the time and we were clearly unlucky but it will stop me going back to that restuarant in the future.

I rate Shula's with Cap Grille and Flemmings.

Shula's does not serve prime beef, they advertise and say " 'premium' certified Black Angus", which is code speak for "choice". If they served prime they would advertise prime.

Shula's serves the "Shula cut" which is beef from their own farms and the quality of the Shula cut exceeds the standards for prime in 7 of 8 categories, meaning it can't be called prime because they miss on one catagory but since they EXCEED prime standards in seven so they can and do claim "better than prime". Their quality certainly exceeds choice.

In reality I consider Shula's a step below Ruths', The Palm, Morton's, on a par with Cap Grill, Flemings and better than Charley's which serves a nice quality choice piece of beef at a cheaper price.

Umm no, Shula's uses an old tried and true advertising gimmick. They create their own criteria and then say they exceed those standards and USDA Prime doesn't, but the standards they create are not the USDA standards.

I have to say I, too, wondered about the USDA Prime designation vs. the
"black angus from our own farm" description. I even asked our waiter about it when we dined there last month because I was skeptical that a steak not designated USDA Prime would be top notch. I got the story about "it's not Prime, it's better than Prime."

So, I ordered the small filet mignon (one size up from the Mary Ann steak). I ordered it medium rare and waited to see what I thought.

Well, it was -- bar none -- the best steak I have ever had in my life. Really amazing -- tender, very flavorful (which a filet often is not) and just plain yummy. I told dh that my steak could turn any vegetarian into a carnivore!

I would rank it far and away better than anything I've eaten at Yachtsman (altho I was a big fan of the Chateaubriand there, which is no longer on the menu, thanks to the DDP).

Places like Le Cellier are simply not in the same league. And, frankly, my Shula's steak was much, much better than my most recent steak (a year or so ago) at Ruth's Chris.

My view -- when they say their black angus is better than USDA Prime, they are right!

Believe what you wish. No skin off my nose.
