DS2's first trip is right around the corner. :thumbsup2 We figure that we will end up with some of the same typical souvenirs (first set of ears, first REAL Mickey t-shirt, and first Mickey stuffed animal his size-We already have a gigantic one that we got as a gift…) He has a Duffy (from our DCL alaskan baby-moon) but loves Sully so we will probably get him the Duffy Sully costume.

I plan on getting his sihlouette done and making it a tradition...

So, what are some of the things that you have gotten in the past that were a hit? :thumbsup2 A flop? :rolleyes:Didn't hold up? :mad:Lasted a lifetime?

Thank you in advance!

My DD usually picks out one stuffed toy. The last time we were there she really like the Minnie's that were dressed up as other characters and ended up getting 2. She also really likes the small rubber princess figurines that have interchangeable dresses. Usually we get her a shirt or sweatshirt. We haven't had any flops so far, but I would say that once we get home the excitement of toys sometimes wanes and she ends up not playing with them as much.

On our first trip she got a minnie in the pink dress to go along with her Mickey and she carried that around our whole trip and still plays with it.

We have a huge bag of stuffed animals that we have collected through the years at WDW sooooo...... not sure they are worth it items, but we could not resist them at the time. We sometimes all get sweat shirts, especially if we do the MVMCP and they have held up well. We too have those first Mickey Ears and while they ended up on a shelf at home, we HAD to have them. Some things that have gotten extra play value at home have included those expensive light up night toys.....expensive but they are good quality and we take them back on return trips. The build your on light sabers were hits with our boys as were lots of things from the star wars store. From the toddler years, favorites might be the box of potato head pieces from DTD. I think there are a few more places to do it now.YEARS of play value back home. Another huge hit are the small die cast cars. They are sorta like expensive match box cars but little guys really play with them and buying a new one right before a sit down meals can be very helpful! We bought a kids watch one year that was not worth the cost, and broke easily, but that is about the only real flop we had. For some reason our little guy LOVED the popcorn bucket and played with it after we got home for a long time when we was little, and we really enjoy using our refillable mugs at home too.

I totally see what you mean with the losing excitement when you get home. That is what I'm hoping to avoid. :thumbsup2 I'm also hoping to avoid mailing too much home (extra cost to ship) and/or overpacking to get home (extra cost for suitcase weight…although we have learned and purchased a travel scale…and have an extra suit case b/c DS gets one too and his clothing doesn't take up that much room!)

I think the mouse ears a rite of passage for any kiddo or adult :good vibes He's probably too little to really get into the build your own light saber (even though DH and I think that is totally cool!) I agree, the matchbox like cars and the Mr. Potato Head pieces will definitely be a big hit and something he will play with for years at this point. Thank you for those suggestions. :thumbsup2

We got sort of a unique souvenir:

My DD turned 2 on our trip a few weeks ago - I got her the Theme Park edition of Candyland (World of Disney at DTD - not sure if it is anywhere else). She loves it! She doesn't really get how to play it totally yet, but she loves pointing out all the rides and characters that we went on. She also like to match the colors. It has been a huge hit!

Love this idea too….Can't wait for weekend game days--especially with the weather we have been having!!!
Thanks for the idea!:yay:

When my son was almost 3 his Grandmother bought him a light up Sorcerer Mickey toy that spun around and changed colors as it spun. They sold them at the stands at night. It was like $17 or something outrageous. I thought it was the biggest waste of money at the time. Except he continued to use it long after our trip. Every night he used that darn thing. We even brought it back to Disney on subsequent trips. The batteries lasted forever. It held up for well over a year. It still spins, but the colors have stopped working recently. Anyways, of all the souvenirs we have picked up, that silly light up spinning Mickey was the most loved by my 3 year old.

If you are into star wars the star wars store has an adorable bath/toddler set. Perfect for bath or if your little one still bites things occasionally. :)

My son's favorites were the potato head parts; when he was 2 he got the snack play food. I have recently been informed we need a new onesdf because the french fries are missing. Also the plastic figurine sets of the different movies are still a hit. They go in the bath tub, the car, and are going on our next trip.

This would be a big hit with my son, and we have a non-disney one that we use for shots at the doctors office. It's a perfect distraction and he copes amazingly well (for being 2) with shots! So, I'm super hesitant to get this b/c the novelty would wear off :(

DH would love it and they do bath time together...

Playfood…hmmm…he's been big into playing house lately. Figurines he hasn't gotten into yet…We have a couple and he seems uninterested….Another vote for the old favorite Mr. Potato Head…I think this is a need!

My DS3 has been obsessed with collecting the diecast Cars and though we can find some of them at Target, its just more special coming from Disney. he also likes the character cars (cars "dressed" as characters...not sure how to explain that, but you will see them). They are easy to carry in your purse for something small to play with when he gets bored and he is always playing with them at home too.
We've also had great luck with the light-up spinny things...we currently have a Lightning McQueen and a Dusty and he loves them both. We've brought them back multiple times, he plays with them at home, and we've brought them to Disney on Ice so we don't have to purchase another one ;)

We took my son back in May, he was 20 months old. He loved Lightning McQueen even though he hadn't watched the movie yet. My mom bought him a set of 'Cars' cars. They are larger than the matchbox type and I think they were approved for 18 months and above. You pull them back and they zoom across the floor on their own. Such a huge hit that I bought him a 2nd set before we left WDW.

He plays with them every single day still and often wants to sleep with one or two of them. I don't know if they had any more sets, if they did I really wish I'd bought them! I keep searching Disneystore.com when they add new items, but they don't have these particular cars yet.

He's watched 'Cars' umpteen times now, so the toy cars mean even more to him now.

As for younger ones, I think the stuffed animals have worked well with my DD. She however has only been there under 1.
For my nephews, they love the cars/trains/anything that you can push. They have done well with the metal cars and busses in sets or single packs. Love them and still are going after 4 years.
However, they did get the monorail and tram sets before. They are heavy metal replicas of each, around 12" long. We found out the hard way that these are made more for collectors then kids. The monorail broke apart the first day, as did the tram. We exchanged the monorail while still there and the CM told us they weren't made for kids. So I suggest staying away from those or anything in that set (the MK replica sets incl the castle and rides), unless your kids are much older and don't want to play hard with it.

These cars seem to be a big hit!

We a huge 'Queen fans here too!

Good to know! Thanks!
