Hello All,

Any recommendations for the best Snorkel excursion in ST Thomas? There are 3 and they all look good.

This one looks like it could be the best - any one go on it?
Full Day Caribbean Sail & Snorkel to Turtle Cove & Honeymoon Beach (ST43)
Do you snorkel from the beach?

Thank you,
Greg

We did it you jump off the ship at turtle cove. So - only for good swimmers/ snorkelers and it's a wet stairs on the side of the boat as an alternative. No changing opportunity on the boat. Honeymoon bay you get closer and walk in the water to the beach. Or transfer on a smaller boat.
Note sometimes if it's booked up they run a cataraman as well, that's better IMHO.

We have done the champagne snorkel to St John 3 times, 2 under the previous name, but same boat. All have been great trips.

Sounds like the one we did. Very good excursion.

Agreed.

We have done the champagne catamaran but are looking to do a different one...it was great...just want to try something new...we are looking into the Castaway Catamaran Sail & Snorkel. Has anyone done that one?

We did the snorkel to turtle cove-honeymoon beach (if it's the all day one). I've never seen so many people use the barf bucket on the sailboat. If you're prone to motion sickness, please, for the love of all things disney, take your meds!!! I swear, we were barely 5 minutes out of dock and 2 people were already sick! I felt sorry for them as the waves only got choppier (and just the sight of someone becoming ill...well, you know how that can be). We saw a few turtles but that was about it--the sealife wasn't very abundant (saw some fire coral). I was disappointed in how little time we got to snorkel there before they had us get back on the boat. And btw, there were a ton of other boats that were already at "turtle town" so maybe there was better coral/fish and we just didn't get to "sea" any. Honeymoon beach is absolutely stunning!! We took a family picture and now it's hung proudly on our wall--the ultimate white sand, tropical beach with caribbean blue water...beautiful! As I recall, there wasn't a lot to do there other than play in the water--again, no snorkeling opportunities and you had about a 100-yd swim to the beach (if you were elderly or very young, you could ride in the zodiac). The beach would've been fine but there was little shade, not enough lounge chairs, and you were there too long in my opinion. The crew of the boat was excellent and very entertaining. They were excellent tour operators and we had a good time. Just wish there had been more fish to see and more time to snorkel with the turtles/less time spent at the beach. We will be finding a private charter when we go in October as there aren't any excursions that offer the snorkeling we want to do. Good luck choosing!!

did they really sail or were they running on motorboat power the entire time?

how long of a wait is it for the rafts? my parents are in their 80s..

they just tell everyone to jump over and swim to the beach??

Hi All! We've booked Caribbean Sea Safari ST46 -it's only half a day and it's on the Virgin Breeze. I've only read one review and it was very good..I'm thinking less likely to have motion sickness than on the sail boat..anyone do this one?
All of the feedback I've heard is that you do have to swim to the beach but they all provide life vests. Not sure about how practical that would be for you parents .. I'm sure they would have to wait for something to take them.

Thanks!

We have been to St. Thomas on cruises twice. Once we did a Turtle Cove excursion that we enjoyed, but the second time we took an excursion to snorkel at Trunk Bay on St. John, and we loved that even more! I would definitely recommend going there if it's a possibility.

That is another tour we did at a different time. Trunk Bay is beautiful. The one and only time I saw an octopus while snorkeling. It was awesome!

My husband and I did the Sail & Snorkel to Turtle Cove, via the pirate sailing ship. To be honest, we wouldn't do it again. The water was not calm out there, at least the day we went. It is barely a "cove" and we were definitely having to WORK to swim/snorkel anywhere. It was super crowded and difficult to follow our guide or our group. We saw some turtles, but we were spending more time trying to keep tabs on our guide and we were fussing with the snorkel equipment provided. At the end of the trip, we were so utterly exhausted, and we both consider ourselves solid swimmers.

Editing to add, because I forgot: several kids and adults in our group got stung by jellyfish out there too. :(

We always take the excursion to Trunk Bay in St. John. The beach is the best and the snorkeling is very good as well.

why didnt u try the other snorkel trips?
thanks for the feedback

We did one other "turtle snorkel" and never saw a turtle and only a few fish, then we tried this one, saw a number of turtles, fish, had a great time sailing over to a beautiful part of St. John. We liked the crew and actually have had a couple of the same folks twice now and enjoy catching up with them. Should we try another one, probably, but like DCL, we keep coming back for what we consider to be a good time.

Just got back on 8/6! We did the half day Turtle Cove snorkel. Best day ever! My husband did not do well on the boat ride over, so he stayed on the boat once we anchored. The kids and I saw lots of fish, a stingray, and several turtles. They also serve Painkillers on the way back--unlimited, until it was gone. I may have had 3. :rolleyes1

Yes! Yes! Yes! to Trunk Bay.

I clicked on this thread to offer my opinion but couldn't remember the name of the location we went to. After reading your post it finally came back to me. We stopped at St. Thomas almost 15 years ago on NCL cruise and this excursion was awesome. We've been snorkeling many times at many different islands in the Carribean. This one stands out as one of the best.

When we went, our boat moored about 100 yards from the beach and we were given the option of simply jumping off the diving platform or waiting for a ride in a small dingy to the beach. Then bottomless cups of rum punch the whole way back to our ship. Definitely one of the less expensive excursions, but certainly one of the most memorable in terms of scenery.
