Best Shoes for baby learning to walk

Stride Rite. Hands down. They have been around for decades and are continually researching how people walk and the best way to design shoes. I have never been disappointed in a pair of Stride Rites.

Bare feet are the best. My DS also had a bare of Robeez, but they were really more for warmth when we went out. His first actual pair of shoes - which we purchased after he started walking -were a soft pair of sneakers from Stride Rite. I do swear by Stride Rite after they are walking - my 6 year old still wears them, too. The outlet if you have one near you can have some good deals.

We let 'em go barefoot most of the time until they're well and truly toddling and want to walk somewhere other than our own house and yard. DD8mo has had two pairs of shoes so far - one for Christmas pictures and one for Easter pictures. She hates wearing them when she's crawling or cruising, so she didn't even wear them all day for the holiday visitng, just for pictures. Then we freed her from the shoes and slippery tights and let her go about her business.

We did like Robeez for our toddlers when we were out and about, and I'm sure DD will be getting her first pair shortly since baseball season is coming up and she's not likely to be content with sitting through her siblings' games. Something else that they liked, particularly DD7 who takes after me in my shoe-hating ways, was watershoes. They're light and flexible but more breathable than most shoes, and when she was a toddler she wore them everywhere.

Pedipeds and See Kai Run are the two brands we used from 10 months to 18 months. He really got the hang of walking once he was wearing these brands! And they are super cute too!

BARE FEET!!!!!!

Luckily, my son learned how to walk in the warmer months...so we just did bare feet and a cheap pair of sandals if I thought something could hurt his feet (but usually even outside, I would just put him on the grass or something anyhow)...

when he was steady, he had to have sneakers for school so we went with Stride Rite...See Kai Run also has a good reputation...
Some of it will also depend on your child's feet, some children have chubby little feet...my son has skinny little feet (almost needs a narrow shoe) and Stride Rite have accomodated his feet well

the best shoes are no shoes at all...according to my pediatrician

Bare feet are best but if you want some sort of protections then I'd say......

Robeez hands down. My middle child wore them exclusively until he was 2.5 years old.

My newest addition will be wearing them too.

Pedipeds are wonderful!!! I can't praise them enough! They are so cute too! They are actually recommended by the American Podiatric Medical Association. My DD could not wear Stride Rite at all. Her feet were wide and pudgy in the front, but narrower towards the back. Regular Width Stride Rite either didn't fit or they hurt her. They would sell us wide and tell us they fit her, but then she would continually have her heel slip out of them, or walk right out of them. Once we found Pedipeds, she pretty much didn't wear anything else until she grew out of what they now call the original line.

Oh I should have probably also said that she hardly ever wore shoes inside our house as bare feet is best; however, she always wore shoes when she was outside or when we went somewhere.

in my world - babies don't get shoes until they have mastered walking - i don't remember the why behind it but it's supposed to be better for their development.

once dd mastered walking we got her stride rite walkers - same as a pp said - white high top style walking shoes. she loves them! :) (and they don't have to be plain either - hers have really cute little pink flowers around the top edge...)

i'm a huge fan of stride rite and would most definitely recommend them over anything else.

Bare feet for sure. We got a bunch of free Preschoolian shoes at a baby fair and loved those for times when we were outside and needed her feet covered. In the winter, she wore socks from old navy ot now target has them with traction on the bottom at most at home.

My DD still walks on her tippy toes and had trouble in alot of shoes. I had got her stride rites at first and she kept tripping on them. I found Jumping Jacks and I was in love. They are the softest soles I have found. They actually have a sole that you can fold completely in half, but it is still a sole. It allowed her to walk as if she had no shoes on.
Here is a link to their baby line.

They are adorable too.
I am so sad that my DD has outgrown that line. I just love them.
She is so used to having those super flexible soles that now she doesn't want to wear any shoes that I can find. I have tried preschoolians and she didn't like them. I think it is because she is used to having the Jumping Jacks shoe soles that are super cushy.
