We're renting a 1 b/r preferred view at BWV. Since I will be 6 months pregnant at the time of our trip, we requested a room near the elevators. My dh is afraid that this will affect the quality of our view. Are we giving up a view to be near the elevators? Should I adjust my request? Can I get some opinions of rooms/views of those who have stayed at the BWV and recommendations to accommodate my "condition".
Thanks,
Carrie

do you like the main pool view - if yes you will be fine - if no - then be prepared for a long walk.

Don't take this the wrong way, but unless you are planning to sit around the hotel for your entire trip, the daily walk to and from your hotel room is going to be just a drop in the bucket compared to the walking you will do at the theme parks.

In fact, if you're planning to walk to MGM from the Boardwalk (there is no bus service), you're actually closer to the park when your room is toward the end of the BWV wing.

No offense taken. I've just heard so many complaints about elevator location. We're going in Nov/Dec so the pool may be mellow. I would just love a location that has "something" to look at. What types of things can you see from the BWV. I've heard about being able to see illuminations. What else can you see from there? I would love to hear about other's comments on the types of views they have had.

with a preferred view of BW you can see some of Illiuinations - not just a preferred view.

you have request BW when you first make your reservations - you probably can't go back and get it now.

If your reservations doesn't say BW view - you won't be able to get that one.

You will get if not the main pool, then the quiet pool, or a canal (going toward studios) view.

It seems the great majority of preferred view rooms overlook either the main pool or the quiet pool facing MGM, the Swan, and the canal that leads to MGM. Standard view rooms overlook mainly the front entrance and are booked way way way in advance because they cost fewer points per night. Some standard view rooms do see fireworks, but not all. They are really not bad views...you do see the parking lot off in the distance, but it is really blocked nicely by lots of landscaping, ponds, tennis courts, etc. The boardwalk views have to be specifically booked (and again are usually gone way in advance).

If it makes you feel any better, we were in a standard view studio for our last visit in a room about as far from the lobby as you can get. We timed the walk one day and it was 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Now we walk pretty fast, but it's really not THAT long. The other big plus is that if you are far away like we were, we were so close to 2 stairways - one that goes out to the bus stop and parking lot, and another that goes out to the quiet pool. Perfect location for us. Since we had a rental car, we went towards the stairways about half the time we left the room. The other half of the time we would go towards the lobby to go to the boardwalk or EPCOT. It all comes out as a wash in the end or at least it did to us. One thing is if you are far away, you might ask for a room on a lower floor because these are just stairwells - no elevators. We were on the 3rd floor and I think near that area there are only 4 stories. Second floor might be ideal...just one flight of stairs (we are not fans of patios).

Good luck!

We stayed at OKW in Dec 2002. When we checked in (at 11:30) they gave us a couple of options of rooms to choose from. Of course, my dh picked the golf course view. Does that happen at the BWV, or is it basically "this is your room"?

Anytime I have checked in at BWV, the room was already assigned. 4 times was early December, which is very crowded at BWV, 1 time was late April this year. One time I checked in at 10:00am, the cm said our assigned standard view room was on the first floor (but not ready), I asked if they could find anything on an upper floor and we did get moved to the 4th floor with a perfect Illuminations view.

We stayed at the BWV last year and had one of the rooms facing the far side of the quiet pool. If you were to walk through the Hallways it was the absolute farthest point from the lobby save one room. However, the CM and valet were exceptional at telling us about all the short cuts to get places, which was much faster than walking through the hallways.

We prefer the rooms that are farther from the elevators. They are much quieter, because there is less hallway traffic. FWIW, we've always found "hallway noise" to be more annoying that anything that you may hear from the outside/pool area.

I'm sure you will enjoy your stay and your room no matter where you end up.

Best wishes -
