Hi, we have never been to Boardwalk before, mostly because my DD was too young to really enjoy it. She's 11 now, and I'd like to go during our trip in December. We'll just go for dinner, and to look in shops.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice restaurant that my DD might like?

We've eaten at Spoodles 3 x (I think)-we like it. Our fav. thing is the calamari appetizer (it's currently off the menu). :confused3 Some of the tapas are very good. We shared the Seafood Paella-it was good and even though we shared, we didn't finish it! I don't remember what my DD5 had, but they have a nice varied menu-I just looked at it and they have kid's appetizers too!

We've also eaten at the Spoodles takeout and had pizza, salad, and breadsticks. We liked it too. We ate at the takeout window in Jan. as part of our CS on Dining Plan. We were looking for something outside of a park that wasn't a food court. I started to order 3 sep. pieces of pizza and the CM said I could order a whole pizza, salad, order of breadsticks, and drinks as part of plan. She only charged us for 2 meals! I really appreciated her doing that. :) It was very pleasant sitting outside eating our fod and playing my DD5 new Trouble game with Stitch. The pizza was too big for the 3 of us, we looked for someone to give the extra to but it was a pretty quiet day. We loved the salad! :Pinkbounc

The only other place we eaten in the Boardwalk area is across the lake at the Beach Club. I think it's called the Yacht Galley It was in 1998 and as I remember it, it was good, and the CM was very friendly.

Just my thoughts, any others?

41 days and counting!

We loved the ESPN club. We ate there 2-3 times during one vacation! The funny thing is that I don't even really like sports, but I still loved the ESPN club. We also got pizza at the spoodles window. That was great too.

I think Spoodles is best with children; Flying Fish better with just adults.

I believe ESPN has the best hot dog on property! It's a foot long, but looks more like a foot and a half. When someone orders it I can't help but laugh as it is soooo long (please, this is a G rated site).

But, I love ESPN Club. The food, atmosphere, and if you love sports this is the place to go. They also have a very nice bar area!

We love Spoodles too, but you might consider walking around the Boardwalk to the Y&B Club and eat at Beaches and Cream. It is a lot of fun and the desserts are great! :cool1:

I'll do this like a magazine quiz:

Is your DD into a casual atmosphere?
Does she love sports?
Does she not mind a loud environment?
Does she like to watch sports while she eats?
Are her favorite foods fries, wings, burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches?
Would she prefer brownies, sundaes and key lime pie for dessert?

Then ESPN is the right Boardwalk restaurant for her!

Is your DD more of a sophisticated palate?
Is she very mature and well behaved for her age?
Does she enjoy being included in a primary "adult" environment and eating expensive gourmet foods?
Are her favorite foods seafood, fish and steaks with exotic and creative preparations?
Would she prefer Valhrona chocolate souffles, fig reduction, Key Lime Tarts or housemade sorbets?

Then Flying Fish will make her feel right at home!

Is your DD somewhere in between?
Does she enjoy a homey, Mediterranean inspired setting?
Does she enjoy sharing appetizers/tapas?
Will she be most comfortable in an environment that is primarily other families - both large and small?
Are her favorite foods Mediterranean? Italian, Spanish and Greek dishes?
Would she prefer mousse, cheesecake, baklava, biscotti or Haagen Dazs ice creams for dessert?

Then please choose Spoodles for her special meal!

It really depends on her preferences (and yours!)

Hope this helped!

I am cracking up laughing at LuLu's post .. oh, I love it! and it is very accurate, IMHO.

We love Spoodles and the Flying Fish both a great deal, but for an 11 year old, I would go with Spoodles. We have eaten there every trip since they opened.

While FF offers some spectacular food and a sophisticated atmosphere. IMHO Spoodles is a better choice for an 11 Y old as there is a lot more "action" in the restaurant (they have an open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work). Being a Mediterranian restaurant it does help if people are reasonably adventurous eating there as there are a large number of exciting and different dishes than one would not normally encounter in an american restaurant.

If you don't mind walking a little and are just looking for a burger, fries and a shake Beaches and Cream is excellent. Another choice in the Y+B club would be the Cape May Cafe. They offer a "New England Clam bake" buffet in the evenings. While it offers a reasonable amount of fish based items there are still PLENTY of meat or pasta items for people not so keen on fish. IMHO the Cape May offers one of the best non character buffets on property.

You have a lot of great choices available in that area, particularaly if you include the offerings in the Swan/Dolphin, as Lulu points out it really depends on what type of food and atmosphere you're looking for.

on our arrival day last Oct with me, DH, DS5 and DD2. Everyone enjoyed it. We ate outside, the weather was beautiful, entertainment on the boardwalk (the man riding/driving a portable piano, as well as just peopel watching) was a lot of fun. Good food for adults and kids, nothing gourmet, but delicious, with large portions. I haven't eaten anywhere else on the Boardwalk, so I can't compare, but we loved Big River and may make it a new tradition. From what I'm reading, you really can't go wrong anywhere on the Boardwalk!

I agree I am not a big fan of sports but I too loved the ESPN Club

We are big fans of Spoodles. The food is good and it is a good environment for a family with kids - younger and older. :)

WHat is the general opinion of Beaches and CReam (I think that is at the board walk). I was considering going there and then Jellyrolls

B&C is at the Y&B CLub right behind Stormalong Bay. Great for burgers, shakes a huge ice cream desserts. It's a nice old fashioned ice cream parlor feeling.

Wow! Thanks ALL of you!! And espeically to you Lulu! So far Spoodles and Beaches and Cream sound the best. How far away is B&C from the Boardwalk?

Beach Club (Beaches and Cream) is a short walk around the waterway to the Boardwalk. You could also walk over to the pier at Beach Club and take the boat over to the Boardwalk. Unless you get the timing of the boat right, it is probably quicker to walk ;)

Here is a map:

:earsboy: :earsgirl: Flying Fish would be my first choice especially if you like seafood. Spoodles is very good also, if you want a quick pizza, there pick up window is great. ESPN is also good. You can also walk over to the Beach Club if you want a casual meal and try out Beaches & Cream excellent burgers, chicken and great desserts. ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo Next trip home 10-11 to 10-22 :thewave:

Never been to Beaches and Cream, but its at the Beach Club Resort. It's just a short walk around the lake to Jellyrolls from the Beach Club. Jellyrolls is a blast!
