Best resorts to upgrade from Studio to 1-Bedroom??

Since I usually travel with my young DD, studios are fine in terms of space. Having traveled with larger groups though, I have enjoyed the amenities and decor of the larger villas. I am going to be (hopefully) booking a trip to Aulani/VGC in the near future and may need to upgrade just to get a reservation. But it has gotten me thinking about a splurge just for the heck of it, and am interested to hear what other DVCers think are the best resorts to splurge on an upgrade? For me it would depend a lot on the amount of time I expected to be in the room, but are there other factors you all consider? :thanks:

A lake view studio at the Poly seemed like an upgrade. DH & I loved, loved that stay!

I'd upgrade to a 1-bedroom at Kidani and BLT for the extra bathroom.
I'd upgrade to a lake view at PVB for the fireworks.
I'll pay more to stay at BLT during TOTWL blackout dates
I'd upgrade to savanna view at AKV for the animals.

But, I'm perfectly fine with standard view rooms at BLT, VGF, and BWV to save points.
And I'd consider a value room at AKV if it was available; I'll gamble on animals if I can save that many points.

The only studio I'll stay in is OKW because we can each get a real bed (one queen bed just isn't comfortable for us).

I love studios so they are okay for me.

Now if my party was 3 or more - at BLT would definitely go for a 1-bedroom - more likely would go for 2 studios.

With a 1 BR you get a washer in your villa, which makes for real convenience if you want to do a load of wash-you don't have to leave your villa! We've been in studios and then 1 BRs at OKW, BCV, and HHI and been so glad we went with the larger unit each time.

I totally agree about Lake View at PVB - a must from now on! I think I will have to get a 1 bedroom to stay at VGC (other pricey option would be Disneyland Hotel) but am torn about Aulani. Washer and dryer would be nice and we may eat some meals in the room (not sure about actual cooking). I envision time on the balcony enjoying the OV :cloud9:.

got a studio for my nephew's honeymoon a couple of years ago - not a problem - he would have loved a 1-bedroom but did not the points to cover it. flying is expensive so they were scheduled to stay a week - but changed their plans to only stay 6 days because they got a better deal on the airline tickets. he got a good deal $900 per person - the first tickets were $2,000 per person.

we just stayed in a 1bedroom at VGC because a studio was not available at 7 months for 4 consecutive days. the extra room and bathroom were great. we washed several loads of clothes and made dinner in the room. i am not sure we could stay in a studio there in the future.

Plus, I really enjoy the decor there and there is more of it in the larger villas!

That's a really good point. My wife commented how the theme was lacking at BWV when we stayed in a studio. We toured a one bedroom and it was a completely different experience. All the little touches really stand out in the larger room, because there are more of them.

We usually stay in studios. I think BLT would be pretty high on my list because the studios are so tiny. We had to upgrade to a 1br at VGF and it was awesome!!!

One bedroom or larger for us. The deal breaker for us is 1br's have king beds and studio's only have queens. Plus having the washer dryer allows us to pack less.

I think the best situation to go for the 1 BR rather than the resort. Likely the best resorts are the ones with 2 bathrooms for the 1 BR. The fact that the 1 BR are double the studio is a big factor. To me the more interesting question is 2 studios or a 1 BR vs the 2 BR since you get a discount on the 2 BR over the 2 studios.

Savanna view one bedroom at Kidani. I could honestly live there for weeks and never go to a park. Love the extra bathroom and the master bath is huge is as the living area. Huge balcony and watching the animals is so relaxing and quiet.

Whether it's just DH and I or us with 2 of our 3 kids (eldest is off at college) or whatever combo of 2-4 folks...we prefer a 1BR. Like to pack light and do laundry. If its' 3-4 folks then DH and I like to have separate space from others (with the master of the 1BR) and I like the jetted tub. But if I need to conserve points, I would book a studio (especially for just 2 of us).

I've yet to do it but I think a good upgrade would be a AK studio to Value 1 Br. :)
