Best Rate Plan, what is it?

Our family of 4 , 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 2 & 8 are going to WDW in May 2006. I am reading this thread and need to know what is the Best Rate Plan (BRP) and where do I read more about it, get information on this. Thanks

This is a relatively new program for Annual Passholders, which allow them to secure reservations early, and then have the best publicly-offered rate applied to their reservation, should any publicly-offered discounts become available after they book. You need to have an activated Annual Passport in order to make reservations with the program (though friendly AP holders often are willing to check on things for non-AP holders).

I currently have a AAA reservation for 12th Floor concierge at the Contemporary over Christmas next year. Would it be worth me switching to BRP or should I wait until the rates are published in a few months time???

There is no guarantee of any discounts and since rates for December 2006 will not be out until 120 days before that time (at the most) which would be sometime in late August/early September there is nothing to switch to at this time. I wouldn't spend the extra money on an AP at this time for something that may never materialize. Don't forget-the discount has to be enough to cover the extra money you would be spending on an AP vs. the ticket you were originally planning on purchasing.

Definitely. The BRP is specifically intended as a benefit for current AP holders, not as an incentive for folks to choose to buy APs. In your case, since you're not holding an AP at this time, it would probably not make sense to go this way. However, if you end up deciding that APs are the way to go for you, on their own merits, then once your first trip starts, and you've activated your AP, then it would make sense to look into the BRP to see if it could be a good option for your next trip, within the year.

Sorry - I forgot to say that we do have AP's (because we come from Ireland we tend to be in Florida for a month so AP's make sense - especially if we stagger the holiday the following year to get a second trip out of them. As we are DVC members I never bothered to keep up with the introduction of BRP. We want to stay at the Contemporary and I don't want to use DVC points for it so that was why I was asking for the BRP info

We also currently have a AAA discount. I'm checking the AP website to see if any discounts come out for the Polynesian during our stay. If so, I will book it and cancel the AAA room AFTER I have secured the BRP rate. So, I would recommend checking the AP site in August and see if something becomes available.

Additional information-the cancellation fee is your one night required deposit and you must book at least 60 days out (120 max, 60 min). I believe there is a $50 change fee but have heard this doesn't apply if you are "upgrading" vs spending less money by changing resorts or shortening the stay.

I will start checking the AP site when we get back from our August trip and make the switch if I see a better rate. Good luck with getting one yourself

I'm hoping. What I really want to do is be able to upgrade from Garden view at the Poly to Garden View concierge.

I checked BRP for 5 nights in April which is Peak season and the discount was $133 a night.
