Best Places to Split Meals

If I want a lighter meal, I will order a kids meal from a CS (include a drink, so it's unlimited powerade for me at places with self serve fountain drinks) or an appetizer as my entree.

If we were to stop using all words and phrases that could be construed as negative, but are not inherently so, we would be unable to use a lot of words and phrases. And my Aunt Karen would need a new name.
It is only your opinion that this phrase “could be construed as negative, but [is] not inherently so”. I have provided an authoritative source that does identifies this specific phrase as potentially problematic.

So I’m not sure what your point is or how that has anything to do with your aunt Karen.

You are free to use whatever language you choose if that’s your point. And others are free to object.

"potentially problematic" ≠ problematic. That was my point.

And "could be construed as negative, but [is] not inherently so" was my point. This is your interpretation and opinion... that because it is not problematic for you in this particular instance, it is not problematic. Not the case.

The fact that this expression has been listed as potentially problematic by an authoritative source, should make anyone cautious about using it in an open forum where you cannot know how said expression will be interpreted by unknown individuals. When among like minded people, by all means have at it. But because this particular expression has potentially problematic implications, finding different, less problematic words, to express the given idea would be desirable.

We all live in different worlds with different life experiences. That makes posting in any open forum especially challenging. I have never heard this expression used in anything but problematic situations so it is not one I personally would ever consider using. The fact that it is flagged by Merriam-Webster indicates that my interpretation is not uncommon. However, the original poster has clarified that the use of the expression in their post was not intended to be negative or judgmental. Fair enough.

This absolutely true.

So since this has been your life experience, the rest of us must refrain from using a phrase that by your "authoritative" definition is not always disapproving?

I am done. I can't deal with people who think they are the moral police on online forums.

I was just thinking one person gets out the dictionary so we all know the correct usage of this phrase

which I think of is more of a slang then being so prim and proper about

thank you BK2014 I couldnt have said it better myself

I can certainly agree to disagree.

But what is slang to one person might be offensive to someone else... if it makes me the "moral police" for raising the issue, then so be it.

On to splitting meals!

Who remembers the old days when you could order a double hamburger/cheeseburger and pay for an extra bun????

Speaking of burgers: DW and I recently split the burger at the Steakhouse 71 lounge. It came with fries and was a good option for sharing depending on one's appetite. It was a good burger too, can't wait to get it again.

I find this a good strategy, as well. I remember a solo trip when I ordered the kids salmon with rice and broccoli at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. Came with milk and grapes as I remember.... just perfect for me. Took a picture and sent it to my daughter... she text me and said "what kid would ever choose to order that"! A fair point, I guess... could be it appealed more to adults looking for a lighter meal. LOL

You have to look, but some kids meals are actually quite appealing

Gotta agree here, some kids meals are pretty great. One of my go-to breakfasts on property is the Egg White Scramble at Capt. Cooks. It's a huge portion and last time I got it they gave me more potatoes on the side than I usually get with an adult entree.

Well, that escalated quickly! Thanks to those of you who suggested split-able meals!

We often split at 50's Prime Time (this was pre-covid, so not sure if meal sizes have changed here). We would both get a PB&J shake (so filling) and split the fried chicken dinner. It came with mashed potatoes, veggies and 3 pieces of fried chicken.

How splittable is the fried chicken at homecomin’? Pictures look large, especially if you add an extra side and save room for some dessert.

We often split the chicken and the Hamilton salad, which is delicious and huge. They will offer to split the chicken soup, as it is a hearty portion. The fried green tomatoes are a good dish to share too.
