I am taking my 12-year-old newphew to Disney World in July. I've only taken girls to the World before, and am looking for perspective. Where should I take my newphew to eat while we're visiting? :yay:

I guess it depends if he is a picky eater....We are taking our two boys, 9 and 12 in April, and asked for their input on dining. (They are not very picky). My 9 y/o said he does not care as long as there are no princesses. My 12 y/o is more of a "foodie". He asked for Sci-Fi at MGM, Coral Reef LeCellier (he is a big Canada fan) and Teppankaki at Epcot and Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. I will post my (their) reviews upon our return.

I would look at Sci-Fi at MGM, maybe Whispering Canyon at WL, Planet Hollywood at DTD, Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club depending on his preferences. My kids at that age were more into counter service, anywhere with a toppings bar. Will he be into character dining?

My DS is 10 1/2 and his favorites are: ESPN Zone, Sci-Fi, 50's PT, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe and Cosmic Ray's. He also enjoyed CA Grill and Le Cellier for the steaks, and Crystal Palace for the "best bacon he ever had". Let's just say he will never be a vegetarian.

Tanner is definitely NOT picky. He is a middle child, and so kind of a peaceful, go-along-with-anything kind of guy. I bought him a Disney planning guide when I gave him the trip last year, along with a questionnaire. I have been saving for a year, so I want this trip to be really special.

I feel like we need to do ONE character meal - since we probably won't seek characters in the parks, at least I will get some photos with characters. Which would you all suggest for a BOY?

Thanks for all the input thus far!

There are plenty of character meals that are not princess oriented. We did Donald's Breakfastosaurus (sp?) at AK last year. That had Donald, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and I think Pluto. As well I think Cape May has the chipmunks. Check out the WDW website for dining.

My 12 year old (almost 13) son is a big meat eater.

He is looking forward to LeCellier and 'Ohana. He also loved ESPN on our last visit.

I think those 3 would be good.

For a character meal, my guys have always loved Donald's Breakfastosaurus. Some of their other favorite restaurants: Sci Fi, Rainforest Cafe, San Angel Inn.

My son, 13, loves Mickey's Backyard BBQ. He loves live bands and dancing and loved this.

My son also asks for SciFi, but also likes to watch the scenery at Garden Grill as the restaurant rotates (they have characters).

And we like 'Ohana for a character breakfast, although we haven't been since Stitch took over.

My 9 year old boy enjoyed Pizza Planet (arcade) and Sci Fi at MGM (cars to sit in and over the top sci fi film clips), Cindy's castle for dinner (when there were no characters, so don't think that'd work now....he liked just being in the castle), Pecos Bill's at MK (counter service...with fries from McDonald's cart across from it on Adventureland side...familiar food), Le Cellier (loved the steak and chocolate "moose" dessert), Restaurant Marrakesh (liked the belly dancer), and the San Angel restaurant in Mexico(liked the volcano, email postcards, boat ride and gift shop) in Epcot's World Showcase, and Coral Reef in Future World (liked the big tank, fish-spotting placecard, and fun desserts), .............not too impressed with AK or hotel eateries. He more liked eating at the poolside bar at the hotel and at water parks.......he loves nachos, and thinks eating while swimming is very cool. He liked going to Boma, but more for the gift shop and animal watching than the food, though he liked the desserts.

Edited to second the mention of Teppanyaki at Japan.........forgot this one, he really liked it.........they cut up and grill the meat and veggies in front of you on a large hot-plate-like table..........you sit on bar stools around the edges.

The new Breakfast and Beyond that is rumored to begin taking ADRs at any time for opening end of March. Toy Story and maybe The Incredibles are the rumored characters.

If not that, then a Mickey meal...........Liberty Tree Tavern was our least favorite, Garden Grill is nice, Chef Mickey's is our favorite and can be done without a park ticket as it's at the Contemporary. I hear there are a couple of others at other hotels, but those are the ones we've done.

I've had 3 12 yr old boys at one time or another, all of them always loved SCI-Fi, to fill them up Trails End, and they love Teppanyaki, and nearly any character meal. Even at that age they got a kick out of the Princess Breakfast, as they fuss over the boys quite a lot :)
