I think it would be cool to get Mickey involved! I don't know as much about Disney as the others on this board, but why not wait in line for a picture with Mickey, and tell a CM on the sly what your plans are. I bet they would have fun trying to make it special.

Sorry but this is a "no no". Disney will not allow a character to be involved with a proposal. The thinking behind that is that if the girl says no then they will forever think of the character that was present in a negative manner.

To the OP, there are so many options out there for your friend. If he wants it photographed he may want to hire someone to do that. Take a look at www.giftsofalifetime.com they do engagements with photos.

Someone posted several years ago about an engagement they did.
I don't remember the exact specifics, but it involved an employee of the company somehow giving them a decorated ball. The ball was made by winding crepe paper streamers around the ring box. There were small trinkets (pins and things) wound in with the paper, so every once in a while during the unwrapping process, a small prize would fall out. In the middle, there was the engagement ring box. The potential groom got down on his knee to propose at that point (of course, the potential bride said yes).
There were employees of the company hanging around taking, secretly taking pictures of the whole process and at the end, they "revealed" themselves and took a posed picture.

The groom had picked the place he wanted the proposal to take place, provided the ring and the company did the rest.

I did a google search and found this:

http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/news69.html

Today's event was one we have done before but every time we find tears in our eyes at the end of the event. It has always ended so happily. This is our buried treasure engagement event and today's version took place on the Beach at the WDW Beach Club. The client, William, wanted to become engaged to Elizabeth. He contacted the Pixies of Gifts of a Lifetime and explained that he wanted something romantic that would take place at WDW but not in one of the parks. We had just the perfect event to suggest. Elizabeth was completely unaware of the coming event and thought that William was just taking her for a walk in the beach after dinner. As they walked along the water line William 'found' a bottle in the sand. In the bottle was a treasure map in the form of a poem. It gave directions to the "treasure of romance." Elizabeth concluded that this must be something that was set up by the hotel for someone else but William pointed out that there was no one around stopping them and that it must be for whoever happened upon it first. The map-poem did say "they who find it first. . . "

So Elizabeth and William began to follow the directions to the location of the buried treasure. When they found the right location William began to dig with his hands while on his knees. Elizabeth stayed on her feet, as if to make a quick exit should the "real" players in the treasure make an appearance. (Giggles). William pulled from the sand a sweet little treasure chest. He handed it to Elizabeth and told her to open it. Elizabeth did and inside she found it was full of rice (This was something William said was their private joke), and a note that read "You have always been all the treasure I need. Please marry me."

Elizabeth fell to her knees shaking (which happens a lot with this event). She was crying by the time William got the ring on her finger. Elizabeth was saying yes, yes over and over again and William was getting teary-eyed, too. The pixies waited until they left the beach and then went over to Elizabeth and William just to give them a small gift. Along with a roll of film of their event the Pixies presented them with a guide to weddings from the engagement to the I do. They have a lot to plan!

Pixies love a good cry!

i cried. but then I cry over little house on the prarie reruns. Man I wish my dh was that romantic. My pick would be at wishes by the castle. I also liked the idea of the deserted magic kingdom on the steps of the castle.to me rollercoasters would be out. even though anywhere at wdw would be exciting and romantic. After all it is the happiest place on earth!!! :teeth:

Here's how Id' do it romantically:

Stay in the park until closing. When the park closes, stay on Main St. for a long time. Hang out. Have ice creat and whatever. After a while Main St will be DEAD. the CM's won't kick you out. We have been the last people on Main St. You can then walk up to the castle and do it on the balcony area of the castle. It's VERY romantic and as long as you stay on the Main St. side of the castle they'll let you roam. The park music is still playing and yet, the place is all yours.

I think that's a great idea. We've also been at MK late before closing and it's a special feeling with
the music in the background. :thumbsup2

Does she have a favorite character? If so he could ask in that general area..ie CP is she likes Pooh...My fiance took it a step further. He knew I was a big pooh fanatic since I was about 3. He found out that the real hundren acre woods existed in England. We went there on the premise of sightseeing. When we reached the Enchanted place, he got down on one knee and proposed. I just love telling that story.

Whatever you do, do it very early in your trip. If you are spending a week in Disney, you won't enjoy yourself at all if you keep putting it off till later in your trip. You will be nervous, only thinking about the proposal, and not able to really relax and have fun.

I proposed to my wife at Cinderella's Royal Table. They treat you so well in there, always calling your girlfriend "Princess" and you "My Lord," or something like that. Anyway, Between dinner and dessert, i pulled the ring out of my pocket, and asked her if she would be MY princess. The waiter happened to be walking toward us, so he picked up our camera from the table, and started taking pics. Needless to say, he got a huge tip.

My DF proposed on the balcony in a room at the Dolphin that had an amazing view of Epcot. He popped the question during Illuminations, it was great!!

there is a beautiful rose garden in World Showcase, near Canada, I believe. It is quite beautiful and there is a small path that goes through the roses. That to me would be the perfect spot. Then afterward, dinner at LeCeiler!! Best Wishes to your friends!!

I saw a proposal at CRT. The ring was brought to the table on a "covered" dish (you know those silver dome-like lids to keep the plate hot). The dish was put in front of the girl. The server removed the cover and the guy proposed. The girl was shaking, as by then the whole restaurant was watching. When she finally nodded her head yes, we all clapped. The server next to our table said they average 2 or 3 a day there. These two were seated at the center window.

The path goes from the area by Imagination toward Canada in World Showcase. You are right, the roses are very pretty.

thanks for all of the advice. i copied them into a word document and will print it and take it to him.

Geez all these are making me weepy, I got proposed to in the middle of the mall AFTER I picked out the ring I wanted :rotfl2:
That is so funny. My DH never actually proposed or planned anything. We dated for 2 years Found out I was pregnant and got married a couple moths later. No ring or anything. The castle sound nice or anywhere in WDW.

The DW and I did a no-kids trip last Nov-Dec for our 25th anniversary. I lead her to the wishing well near Cinderella Castle. I gave a her a coin and asked her to close her eyes and make a wish. While she had her eyes closed, I retrieved a new diamond ring from my pocket and got down on one knee and re-proposed.

I have always and most recently dreamed of getting engaged either in front of the Castle or at sunset waiting for Illuminations. There have been some beautiful sunsets around the lagoon at Epcot and Illuminations is my favorite fireworks at Disney.

Hi everyone,

My son proposed to his fiancee at the MK. My DH and I had gone to the park a couple of months prior to his visit with his fiancee. During that visit my son asked me to buy a crystal cinderella slipper from the crystal shop on main street. When I got home I made a velvet covered insert for it and tacked the engagement ring to it. When he and his fiancee went to the MK, he waited until after dark when the park looks the best. He chose a low lit spot under a tree near the entrance of the park, got down on one knee, presented the slipper, and proposed.

The funny thing about it was...She was so happy, she said yes but, couldn't stop crying. So, when they went to the busses to go back to the hotel, people kept giving him strange looks like he had abused her. They had to tell people they had just gotten engaged.

It was pretty memorable for them both.
