Depends on what you prefer, but I liked being in Congress Park. We were in the building closest to Disney Springs and the walk back and forth wasn't bad at all.
Preferred sections are The Springs and Congress Park. Springs is closest to main pool, dining, etc. CP is fastest walk to DS.
We prefer CP because we would rather eat in DS and we don't do pools.
Congress Park is (to the best of my knowledge) fully renovated or at least close to it. They have started on The Springs, but I don't think anyone really knows if they continued renovations during the closure.
We’ve stayed in the Springs, Paddock and Grandstand sections before. Grandstand was my favorite. We had a great view of the golf course. It was quiet and peaceful but still a quick walk (5 minutes maybe) to the Carriage House and all amenities. We enjoyed the Grandstand pool as well.
If you are preferred and not standard, you will be in either Congress Park or the Springs. Congress Park is next to the fourth bus stop and the Congress Park pool which is unthemed (no slide, no dining), but close to Disney Springs. If you are in the Springs, you will be closer to the main themed pool, Artist Palette and the Carriage House. Springs is the fifth (and last) bus stop.
I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am. If you were staying at SSR standard but were spending all your time not at the disney parks and wanted to get the car out on the road quickly where would you request?

As to the OP query with preferred room, and speaking as a person that relishes views, SSR's Congress Park with lake view is one of the best at WDW.
As to the post about not going to parks but getting out with car quickly., Carousel would work, but it really does not make much difference where you are because you park at the particular building where your room is,.

I would ask for the last Paddock building closest to Congress Park and use the back entrance. It is quicker ou of the resort, because the buses and most vehicles use the main entrance.
