I am planning a trip for DH and I and we will be flying for the first time in February. I have located an ideal flight for us on several sites(air gorilla, travelocity, expedia, AAA...) They all seem to run about the same price. Is any one of them usually a better/more reliable site to purchase from?
Any opinions would be appreciated
I am really nervous about purchasing this far out but as told "price will definately go up if you wait", so any guidance is welcomed.
Thanks

Think they are all fine, but it is usually cheaper to buy direct from the airline. Places like expedia charge a fee.

Have you checked the "cheaper" airlines like song, spirit, jetblue, swa...

I purchased our tix for Feb a few weeks ago. The price for our flights has already gone up.

Go directly to the airlines webpages

I found an awesome deal on travelzoo for Delta and went to the delta site and got a few extra dollars off.

Southwest is also a great airline for discounts -
I paid $116.90 for RT Philly to Orlando direct flights up and back fees included.
(of course that price was pre-Katrina.)

I almost always use the big travel sites to compare prices, but buy directly from the airline. It saves on booking fees which can be very expensive if you are paying per person and buying for the whole family.

Maroney...I think it somewhat it matters where you are flying from....I think flights are less expensive from the east coast. We are flying from the west coast and I looked and looked for airline tickets for months...looked Orbitz, travelocity, expedia and each airline site. I even have the "ding" thing and nothing! Then I started checking AAA site and lo and behold they were cheaper then any of the others. I actually found AAA one day for our flight for a great price and went for it.
SO to make a short post long...I like AAA :)

Hey Maroney,
SWA (southwest.com) has the best fares, if they fly from a city near you.
And don't forget - they will still be in business when you plan to go :cool1:
The fares may be so low that you can drive to the airport the night before, stay overnight and still save $ over using the bankrupt airlines. SWA is also alot more fun!

I always end up looking on one of the megasites and then go to the airline directly since normally you are not charged a booking fee by buying from the airlines website (and you can choose your seats and bonus airmiles by buying on their site too if you are interested in those perks)

I agree. Use the megasites for shopping and the airline sites for purchasing. Also, Southwest doesn't always have the best fares. Sometimes they sell out and that's that.

SWA Dings great fares; then you check the days and times and there's nothing much, if anything, available for the Ding rate.
Check and compare on the megasites and buy direct from the Airline site.
Good Luck

Thanks for all the info. I did book through Delta. The cost was actually $10 less than on the other sites. We opted for the only available non stop flight which was a little more than those with one stop, but the times were great and since we have neither flown before we are more comfortable with the non stop.
