Best place to celebrate a birthday

A few weeks about (May 2010) we went to Disney and celebrated my daughter's 8th birthday. We arranged for the Princess Storybook Breakfast at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and arranged for my DD to get a birthday cake. The cake was lovely, but we didn't eat it all (it was big and after all that food, who could eat another bite) so had to rent a locker so that I did not have to lug it around Epcot, to then have my other DD step on it while waiting for the bus home. I had put in next to a pole and a railing so that it was out of the way, but somehow the little bugger managed to step right in the middle of the box and smash it to mush.

Oh course my first DD was hysterical and I promised to replace it. The next morning we went to breakfast at the Grand Floridian and 1900 Park Fare and asked about a cupcake as I saw other birthday kids with them. They sang her happy birthday, brought over the cupcake, and all was well with the world. There was no charge for the cupcake, which is probably all we needed for the day before.

So, with that said, I would like to arrange a birthday breakfast for my DD, the cake smasher, when we go in December. I would really like to just get her a cupcake as that really seems that it works well in the long run.

Do different resorts or restaurants do it differently?

We also might bring my grandmother who will have just turned 90 in November so there would be another celebration.

Thanks, Melissa

Generally speaking each restaurant usually (stress on usually) offers the cupcake for children. We've had other desserts offered for adults.

To be certain, you can call ahead and make sure that will be the case, or get one more cake for both your daughter and your Grandmother.

I don't know how you visit WDW (personal transport available?) but Publix does cakes and cupcakes that put Disney's to shame. They are beautifully done, often with an elaborate Disney theme, and you can special order them in a matter of days, if they don't have what you want immediately available.

Hi Melissa,
Do you mind me asking, who or which bakery made the cake you ordered?
Did they deliver to Akershus for you?
What flavor was the cake, filling, frosting?
Was it yummy?
Cost?

I'm kinda a cake snob (mostly cuz I make really fantastic cakes myself) and don't want to order one if it's not going to be out of this world fantastically delish!

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

A few years ago when we celebrated my dad's birthday at Chef Mickey's, Goofy came to our table and gave him a Cup Cake.

We celebrated DH's b-day/Thanksgiving dinner this past year at Teppan Edo. They brought him a dessert, but I can't remember what it was. They also gave him a chef's hat and sang happy birthday. It was really fun! A kid at the table across from us also was celebrating a birthday; he got a cupcake, the song, and a chef's hat, too.

Wondering also where you got the cake, cost, flavor/filling..
Need to do something for my DD18th while we are at WDW

Through-out the years, we've celebrated birthdays at Akershus (breakfast and lunch) - Tusker House (Breakfast) and Crystal Palace (Dinner).

We've gotten cup cakes each time, and last time we were at Akershus, my daughter got a card signed by all the princesses.

When I made the reservations on-line I indicated that we were going there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Disney called me to find out if I wanted to order a cake and I ordered a chocolate cake. It was really cute and she also got a card signed by the princesses. I think it was about $30. My husband and two dds thought it was good. I cannot have anything with gluten so they brought me a gluten free brownie.

I know you can order the chocolate slipper for 12.50 but do they have a cupcake or special dessert? We have ressies for breakfast for DD 5th birthday.

I celebrated my birthday at CRT in January and they gave me a little cake and sang happy birthday. That was nice!
