I'm planning a progressive dinner for my birthday! Where would you pick to go for each course--appetizers, entree, and dessert?

Jiko for the trifecta! We went in Oct for my birthday and it was just amazing

If you are doing a progressive, I'd suggest keeping it to one area - even if you're planning to devote the whole night to the event. Remember you can wait 20+ minutes for your table. The meal - even at one course - will take about half an hour to 45 minutes from the time you're seated until you leave. So allow 1hour + for each restaurant. Travel time from park to park can take an hour on the buses, only hop if you have a car.

I'd suggest either a monorail tour or a tour of the countries in Epcot.

Take a look at the menus and see what sounds good to you. I would definitely not plan on doing this park to park though - you'd run a big risk of missing your reservations at the next restaurant.

I have never done a progressive dinner and I don't see the fun in it :confused3 I know it is just me  but can you tell me why you want to do that?

Just curious and would love to know from those that like a progressive meal, what is the attraction? I have heard of it done by neighbors where each house is a diff course, but never in dining out

thanks :D

for me, all 3 are at narcoosees:

crabcake, whole lobster, almond crusted cheesecake! :cloud9:

Spoodles for appetizers and Sangria
Flying Fish for entree
I never have room for dessert

For a progressive dinner, I would do the monorail. And in between, I definitely suggest trying to ride in the front of the monorail!!!

Go for drinks and apps at the Tambu Lounge at Poly.
For dinner, Cali Grill.
And for dessert, The Wave at the Contemporary.

I am always too full for dessert and The Wave has these little tasting portions. I have never been there but I want to try it.

This sounds way fun to me!!! We have done drinks and apps this way but never a progressive dinner. It will give you the opportunity to try several different restaurants.

To answer a bunch of questions....

I can park hop or resort hop, it doesn't matter. I would prefer resorts, just to make it easier to get around.

I am pretty much devoting the whole afternoon to this--appetizers will start around 2, entrees probably at 5, or the earliest dinner slot I can get.

I live here so I will have my own car, although I love to ride the monorail!

I want to do this because it is different! My DH is a Cast Member, so we have done a LOT of Disney, and we've just never done this before. I started thinking about it with the Dream Meal post, and now I want to do it in real life.

Jiko is my ultimate favorite, but it is our standing anniversary date. We ate there on our honeymoon during my first trip to WDW, and now that we live here we go there every anniversary.

And finally, I can figure out the logistics myself, I just want to get some ideas of where your favorite place for each course would be.

I think that sounds like a really fun idea! For the PP who didn't get why it might be fun: For me, I think it would be because you got to experience three different restaurants instead of just one. Also, just because a restaurant does a wonderful dessert doesn't mean that the other courses are as good. This way you get the best of what is offered. It's also a little like a game which is fun.

One suggestion would be to start at the Boardwalk for appys, then walk over to one of the WS restaurants for entree, and end the night with a monorail ride to the California Grill for dessert and drinks which would give you a chance to take in the fireworks from atop the CR. As for specific menu items, I'm of little help. We have only eaten at 7 TS restaurants.

I think having one course at a restaurant at each of the monorail resorts sounds like a great idea!:thumbsup2 As for the best place for each, I'm at a loss. I've only done Chef Mickey's and 'Ohana and I wouldn't suggest either for a nice adult birthday dinner.:lmao:

I would only suggest this at monorail resorts. Different parks/resorts is very time consuming to get to.

Monorail resort restaurant apps are so incredibly tiny, it wouldnt even be worth it to go for just that. Maybe you could get an app and entree, then move on for dessert. That is just my opinion, and Im giving it 6 hours after I returned home from a 9 day stay with feet swollen like 2 balloons from walking around so much. I would never split up a meal! Its my only time to sit for an hour or two and relax/ get off my feet.

ok i get it :)

Starting at 2 will limit your choices for appys. Many restaurants don't open til dinner

Do you like sushi? Maybe start at Tokyo Dining for some sushi or tempura

Then head over to Yachtsman for beef. Lots of very yummy choices. And have you had the onion rolls? :worship: OMG! I can make a meal on those alone

Then back over :cool1: to world showcase and Bistro for the dessert sampler :yay: Had this in May with a friend for her birthday (we were traditional though and had the whole meal here  ) The samper was 9 different desserts and they were fantastic!

After dessert, head outside and get a grey goose slushie and find a good spot for Illuminations.

Sounds like a great time and let us know what you plan :hippie:

I think the OP has the luxury of time though. She is devoting pretty much a whole day/evening to this. So I don't think she has to worry so much about the swollen foot problem.

Also, I understood her as wanting to have a whole appetizer course. Not just one order of something. You're right. It wouldn't be worth much time to sit down and order one spring roll or something like that. I just assumed she would be ordering several appetizers, especially since she's spreading out the courses.
