I am making my girls' autograph books. The paper of each page is cardstock. What is the best pen for me to get for their books? Something that is easier for the characters to hold that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have been looking at retractable sharpies but they are expensive. What do y'all use?

I made my DD an autograph book with cardstock and I spent the extra money and got the the retractable sharpies. They work great and you don't have to worry about losing the lids. I figured that we would use them at home after and I will try to hang onto them for our next trip. I just bought the black ones.

When we went last year I got the big black sharpies. The characters can hold them easily and I like the way it looks when they sign. I know I'm a crazy lol but I just looks so bold in the sharpie.

We used regular sharpies--their big size is easier for the non-human characters to handle, and I just held on to the lids...none lost. We did take different coloured sharpies (which doubled as basic craft supplies for the hotel) so my daughter could choose the colour for each character. So we have Cinderella in blue, Rapunzel in purple, Mickey in red and etc. Adds a nice touch to the autograph book.

We used the retractable Sharpies too. If you have a Michaels nearby, you can use a 40% off coupon to buy a pack (or hold out for a 50% off coupon, if your trip isn't for a while).

The Sharpies were nice to have, because we labeled other things throughout the vacation -- initials on waterbottles (I had a cold and didn't want anyone to drink after me), mark the tags when DDs chose identical stuffed animals, etc.

Retractable Sharpies are really not that expensive. Amazon has a 3 pack (black, blue and red) of retractable ones listed for $5.50. Walmart's and Office Depot's websites have them for $6.50.

At our local OfficeMax they sell single retractable sharpies up by their registers. They were 1.80 each in Michigan. I could get three different colors cheaper than the standard 3 pack of black that they sell which made no sense at all. Usually the multipacks are cheaper than buying singular pens.

I have read here that the characters do not like to use green sharpies when signing. Something about the green staining the fabrics if it gets on their costumes. I can't tell you that this is accurate, but that's what I've heard.

Thank you everyone! Sounds like retractable sharpies are the way to go! I will definitely watch out for a Michaels coupon and see if I can get them from there. What I mean by them being expensive is each girl wants a different color....and that multipack IS expensive...lol. But I didn't know I could buy them individually I will definitely check that out.
