We are going to BWV in Sept and using the Magical express to get to the Boardwalk. I'm wondering if I should buy our groceries at the Boardwalk store or use one of the food delivery services? It's just two adults in a one bedroom. I don't cook dinners but usually do breakfast drinks and snacks. What are the thoughts of my fellow DVC'ers?

I'd proably go with wegoshop.com. They can get you whatever you want. The onsite stores are pretty limited in selection. And prices are better too!
I used them for the first time last week, and I'm definately going to use them again!

We used wegoshop.com also last month. It worked very well. Be sure to specify cheapest brands if you don't usually buy the most expensive brands of items. They got some items that were at the "higher" end of priceing. Next time I will say "cheapest white" or cheapest "peproni pizza" etc. You can order by name, if they don't have it at the store you choose to shop they will substitute.

I would just buy the little you need at the resort. wegoshop is going to charge you $15. Not worth it, if you're only getting a few things.

We are going to try wegoshop.com for our next trip. I had 2 pages of groceries to fax them. There are 14 in our group and even for breakfast and snacks we will be buying a lot of groceries. I am special ordering a Birthday Cake from the Publix Xentury City. I hope all goes well! We are trying magical express and won't have a car. I figure the time savings and no need for a taxi will pay for the delivery charge and then some! :cool1:

My DH found the Hess minmart right outside BWV very convenient and economical. DH is a walker but he said it was not a long walk. Milk, water and snacks were very reasonable as was the beer! :cloud9:

Throw what you can in your suitcase. Things like dried cereal, W/D supplies, oatmeal, etc and be easy to take. Then you can pick up the perishable items at the BWV store or the store on the corner.

Thanks one and all. Each response has value. I never gave walking to the Hess store a thought before. I am concerned about packing food since 9/11. I seem to remember that being some sort of no no. Am I dreaming?

My DH always packs his carry-on with snacks. He has never had a problem. I'm not sure about putting food in checked bags, but carry-ons, it's fine.

If you saw what he brought with him, you would think we're flying from Australia instead of New Jersey! It's a little over a two hour flight and he has his carry-on pretty well stocked! :)

This weekend, a poster on the DVC Community Board posted about snacks and coffee being taken from her checked luggage in December, so I'd say packing food in checked luggage is out. Packing stuff in your carry on sounds like a good idea, then you have room for souvenirs on the way home ;)

Does anyone know if the Hess store sells Pepsi products? Or do they only sell Coke products?

I was checking into the shopping delivery service since we will be at disney for 2 weeks. I just spoke with Delta and fortunately, he said that any type of food items that do not require refrigeration are fine. He mentioned they have a lot of people packing snacks (chips, cookies, etc.) and even liquor (as long as it is packed so as not to break). You (generic) may want to check with your airline if you have any question about food being checked through.

HTH!! :earsboy:

I often carry food items (cookies, chocolate, coffee) in my checked luggage on trips from Europe and all over the country and have never experienced a problem. I can't imagine why TSA would have an issue with cereal or coffee, though it usually will get your luggage opened, I assume because coffee is sometimes used to mask the scent of drugs. However, procedures can vary from place to place (for a few months only Washington National made you take umbrellas out to scan like a laptop). The carry-on idea sounds best. We use our lovely DVC backpack for the stuff that's easier to bring from home (salt & pepper, extra dishwashing/laundry soap, coffee, etc) and never have an issue at the airport.

We pack cookies, ceral, poptarts, oatmeal ,bagels and apples and have never had a problem with our checked bags.

At the stores at the resorts? We really don't need a half-gallon of milk!

TLinden16 - I think only Coke products are sold on Disney property. I'm a Diet Mt. Dew drinker and always have to bring my own with me on property. I think Coke has an exclusive contract with Disney.

Where in relation is the Hess minimart to BWV? And is there something similar for OKW? I've never been to either one-walked through BCV for Beaches and Cream so I kind of know where BWV is to there. We will be using ME to get to our resort. I know what I want to get to stock the kitchen for my son and I, but the groom-to-be and his son(my future stepson) can't plan in advance-they want me to do all the planning which is fine but I'm trying to get ideas from the stepson and he's impossible.

If you go out the entrance of the BW..where the security gate is...and take a right, it is a very short walk. It's on the corner of Epcot Resorts Boulevard and that main drag...is it Lake Buena Vista Boulevard?

There's also a mini-mart across from DTD where the prices aren't bad. You could take a bus to DTD and then just cross the street.

If you truly only want a very few things, I'd probably jut go to the store right on the BW though.
