Best OOP restaurants

We didn't get FD for the first time and we aren't paying for the DDP. We love TS restaurants, it's part of our Disney experience. So what are you favorite OOP restaurants? What's the best for our money? Resorts and parks.

Via Napoli. Our family of five shared their largest pizza and it was plenty!

To me, it's hard to beat Kona Cafe OOP. At lunch you can get an excellent steak and pasta salad for $14.99. Sanaa is also a good OOP value.

We're paying OOP as well, and it did seem like Via Napoli is a really great value. We could easily just split a pizza and it won't cost much more than CS. And we're also doing Kona!

Restaurants we've found aren't as great OOP: O'hana, Le Cellier, Narcoosee's

I'm sure there are others, but those are just the ones that did or didn't make it on our ADR list based on being OOP

MK--The Plaza (Tony's is reasonable for lunch, but not my favorite place to eat)
Resorts-Kona café at the Poly and Beaches and Cream at the BC
Epcot-not a TS but we love the selections at Sunshine seasons
HS-Sci Fi and Prime Time both have reasonable entrée prices.

I have to second Kona Cafe as a good value for OOP.

Others we often use OOP to save dining credits:

Sci-fi Drive In
Earl of Sandwich
Wolf Gang Express (likely the best deal for a dinner)

When we have dining (free or paid) I like to maximize the value of the credit.

So glad someone else asked this... We're going in December with my brothers family that are first timers. We have the dining plan but are doing CRT for his family(it is dinner in the castle after all) so we will have to come OOP for another meal and have been trying to decide what dinner meal would be the best value.

I meant to add this, but you can go to Allears.net to check out the menus with prices. That will give you an idea of what everyone may order. There is even a $30 steak at Sci Fi which, if we are in FD and DD (who eats like a bird) wants to order it I say "go for it". If we are OOP she knows she will order the burger!

We are in exact same situation as you...and also wondering like the OP (although we have ADRs selected )

I agree with the others. This year we're doing OoP for Kona, Sci-Fi, and Plaza because we decided to add a couple 2-point TS meals. Yak & Yeti also has some good, decently priced meals. We've gone there OoP twice, without reservations, and both times were able to walk in and it came to a reasonable price!

Also wanted to add this: We've gone a couple times without a dining plan and we've found that any restaurant can be feasible OoP if you're smart about it and either get appetizers for meals (at some restaurants the appetizers are pretty huge and can be used as meals, I'm not saying everyplace is like this) or get a reasonably priced entree. For my friend's 21st birthday we met up in Epcot and went to Le Chefs de France for lunch. We each got soup and split a flatbread and it was a wonderfully filling meal!

I would definitely check the menus at some of your favorite places to see if they are still feasible. As PP said, almost all restaurants can be done on a budget if you look ahead of time and find something to order. You can still eat steak. For us, the savings come in that we prefer to drink water and do so even when going out here at home AND we are more than happy with sharing a dessert.

MK - take the boat to FW to eat at the Trail's End Buffet ($25 adults/ $14 kids) or The Plaza (like CS food, but get to sit and rest in air conditioning)
EP - Chefs de France has a prix fixe menu with app, main item, and dessert and lunch is cheaper then dinner ($25 lunch/ $40 dinner)
YC/BC - Beaches and Cream, good food, prices similar to CS but is a TS

When paying OOP we tend to go to -

The Plaza
LTT for lunch

Via Napoli
Biergarten for lunch
Chefs de France for lunch

Tusker House breakfast

Sci Fi

Kona
'Ohana

Cape May breakfast

MK The Plaza, great sandwiches, salads, soups
Epcot Via Napoli, Chef de France
HS new bar area at BD
AK nothing

Resorts

FW Trails End
GF GF Cafe
BC Beaches and Cream
BWI Big River Grille
YC Crew Cup Lounge

I found that grand Floridian cafe is super reasonable at lunch - same with whispering canyon cafe, beaches and cream! The plaza, via Napoli, 50s and sci fi are also good options. For my family we'll usually split an appetizer instead of each getting one and we also usually skip dessert because we are too full!

Great thread! This is our first time OOP for the trip and I'm glad to see some of the restaurants we have picked. My kiddos are 6, 10 and 12 and honestly, to pay for my ten year old as an adult is crazy considering what she eats. I'm kind of looking forward to not having that dessert with every meal! We don't eat that way at home plus, tipping on top of all the desserts and drinks that you normally wouldn't be ordering if you dined out at home really adds up. We have picked Via Napoli, The Plaza, 50's Prime Time and Ohana ( I know it's high, but it's tradition and the one meal my kids really request!). Staying at CSR so will more than likely try Maya Grill. Just another suggestion for CS...Flame Tree BBQ in AK is a pretty good value and I love eating by the water watching Everest :goodvibes...27 more days!:cool1:

We are doing Ohana as a tradition too. I think Chef Mickeys too because we haven't been in quite a while. Its killing me to pay for CM OOP though!!
