Best of the F&W offerings this year so far

We are heading to the world in 13 days and were wondering what people thought were the best food offerings there this year. I already read a thread on how bad the pierogies are, so it would be helpful to know what people thought was great so we could avoid some of the not so great offerings. Give me your top 5 if you will.

Well, I didn't eat five things, but I did like the sausage and polenta at Canada and the spinach pie at Greece. Those were my favorites. Of course, the sausage and polenta has been my favorite appetizer at Le Cellier for a while, so that one was a no brainer for me. I did think the spinach pie was a little expensive for the portion size though. But it was good!

I had a number of things- of course it depends on your tastes a bit.

My favorite item for the price was the smoked meats plate at the Cheese booth (I can't spell the other half of the name). I know someone mentioned it was dry but it is smoked meats so I had expected to drink water with it. It cost $3.75 and I got a larger amount a 2nd time I purchased it but the first time I got 2 pieces of ham (smae size as a deli slice at the grocery store, 2 slices of duck (about the size aof a deck of cards but not as thick (deli slicing), and 2 slices of smoked beef (my slices were a little smaller than the duck on the first plate but on the 2nd I got 4 slices that were as large as the ham). It also has a 1/2 slice of a drier bread and 2 pickles (which I did not care for the taste of.

My DH loved the Korean Rib dish (he lived in South Korea and was waiting tohave this since the booth list came out). Again the rib protion was quite generous.

The dessert in Ireland was fabulous (lave cake with with Bailey Cream Drizzle).

I thought the ribs in France were quite dry and while I still liked the Fisherman's Pie in Ireland I thought it had tasted better last year.

The dessert in Canada was also dry (I needed lots of water to eat it) but delcious- it was a coconut bar with a peanut butter layer and then a chocolate ganche layer.

We started at the other side of the WS and loved the Champange & Dessert (second kiosk after Brazil on the Mexico side) and the tamale from Mexico ... it was to die for!

Another vote for the Fisherman's Pie from Ireland! It was yummy!

We also really enjoyed the sausage in Germany (although be forewarned that the roll is half the size of the sausage) the spicy shrimp in China and the Kefta in Morocco. The lamb chop in Australia was good too, but greasy.

hmm...top five...
almond cake in Spain...moist and very flavorful
black pepper shrimp in China...a little greasy but I liked it (my hubby didn't as much)
flavors of Africa (South Africa)...this was a rice salad and two spreads with some bread. One was a chili and the other was sun-dried tomato, I think...very fresh and tasty
my hubby enjoyed the short rib and rice from South Korea...this was a very generous portion...I don't eat red meat but the cucumber kimchi and the rice were both wonderful
and of course the maple glazed salmon from Canada...a winner every year!

we are not big drinkers but we had the Nectar Imperial Rose from the champagne booth and really enjoyed (for people who like sweet) and my hubby fell in love with the Altenmunster Octoberfest beer from Germany. I really don't like beer but this one was quite nice...very light and no bitter aftertaste.

The Conga frozen drink from Mexico was delish. I also like the empanada from Argentina, the pierogi from Poland, the sausage and strudel from Germany. Also notable were the Primavera fruit smoothie from Italy, and the mussels and belgian waffle from Belgium. The beef from South Africa was good too.

My sister loved the bison chili from USA and the lobster roll from the Hops and Barley booth was a great use of a snack credit. Also try the 15th Anniversary brew. It is a wheat beer so it is crisp with a nice clean finish.

We went last night.
The best I had was the "cheese fondue" at the cheese booth.
DH had the meat sampling and did not care for it. He thought it was too dry.
The Fisherman's Pie at Ireland was good. But it was better and slightly larger last year.
Same with the Lobster Roll at the American area. For a snack credit, it was a heck of a deal. However it was too much if paying OOP. Mine was rather puny on the filling and had what I consider too many ingredients to stretch out the portions. The roll was the best part.
DH also had the meat and sweet potato dish from the African kiosk. The potatoes were not warm. So not sure if they were suppose to be or not. It did have a spicy kick to it, he said.
We also each had the trio of desserts at the champagne and dessert kiosk. We were both disappointed in that. The best of the three was the pear dessert.
The Korean meat on a skewer looked really good. We are trying that next time.

My least liked dish was the dessert trio. I thought it was rather bland. That was a shame as they looked so pretty.

My favorites were:
The cheese soup from Canada. I love/crave that stuff
The beef skewer w/chimichuri from Argentina. It was awesome.
The lobster pie from Ireland.
Sausage in a pretzel roll from Germany.
The creme brulee from France (this was so good!)

I don't drink wine so can't help you there. I will say that I pretty much liked everything I tried. There were a few things (empanada) that were just ok or good but mostly everything is worth trying. Its fun how the different combos of flavors burst on your tongue (looking at you weird coconut shrimp stew from Brazil) and you end up enjoying something you did not think you would care for.

Go with someone and SHARE! You get to sample more things

Up in the "Disney Dining Reviews" section, I ran across this post last night.. It's only one persons opinion, but seems they tried a lot of the stuff!!!
