I have not been to Sweatmans since hurricane Hugo hit in 89. Had to evacuate James Island, stayed with a friend of the family that lives down the street from Sweatman's and I think he was married (and divorced) to the owners daughter. Its been so long ago, I can't remember. Anyway, due to the evacuation, we decided to get our fill of hot food before the storm and boy, am I glad I did. We had all of our family and some of theirs, what a great pre hurrican party!
Okay, imagine my surprise, when ,on a thanksgiving trip to New York city (I livred in upstate NY for 3 years...I was a BIG fish out of water...) we went into a BBQ place in downtown Manhattan and they had a Placemat hanging on the wall from...you guessed it...Sweatman's!!! It seems the owners of the restaraunt in NYC had been cross-country searching for the ultimate sauce and Sweatman's was on their list as best for mustard based BBQ! Also, Sweatman's was listed as best BBQ in Southern Living one year. Well, if I could get someone to ship it to me I would...My Mom shipped me a HUGE package of Bessinger's BBQ for Mother's day the year I was pregnant with DD3. There was a whole lot of Hootin' going on from this Southern Gal! :rotfl:

I know this sounds silly, but as much as you gals are talking up Sweatman's I can't get it to sound good to me due to the name. I just keep picturing this big fat sweaty guy sweating into the sauce :rotfl:

okay,now I'm grossed out! :)
I'm sure it's a family name, because that name is big in those "parts" of the backwoods! :rotfl:
I bet when I go back in December when I pull up to the place I'll have the vision of the big guy out back, roasting the pig, adding his own "secret ingredient" to the sauce!!! :rotfl2:

I have the same picture, but I just know that at some point DH will want to make a trip out in that direction. :faint:

okay, I forgot to mention one thing that is very important about Sweatman's...they are only open on Friday's and Saturdays. I believe from 11 AM to about 8 PM. And, they close for the whole month of August, And usually around New Years, but I'm not positive about that.
If any of you go, I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts on the food. Btw, it is buffet style. make sure you get some ribs...okay now I'm really hungry! :flower:

This is changing the subject drastically...
I heard about the tv news anchor, Nina sossamon, running over Dean Stephens' baby in the car! OMG!!! Is there any new news on the accident and how the child is? Thanks for this thread! It is wonderful to talk to someone at "home"! :sunny:

The whole situation is really odd to me. First off, the little boy is not doing great, but ok. They had a vigil for him at a church in Mount Pleasant yesterday. He made it through a lot of the rough days, but he still isn't doing well by any means. The whole news crew just changed. I understand Nina Sossamon leaving, but then they hired a guy (somebody Pepers) and then they had 2 guy anchors, which is unheard of, so the other guy (John Robinson) just kind of disappeared. We, personally, have never heard what happened with him, but maybe we missed it :confused3 It was like the twilight zone :earseek:

Well, being a Mother of three, I know both Nina and the mom of the child must be devestated. I cannot imagine the hell they're going through. The new anchor must be Warren Peper!!!! Is that his name? He was at Channel 5 since the 1970's when I was a child. He did sports for them, but I heard last year that he had been fired or something because he couldn't be paid any more than what he was already making. He is a Charleston icon to those of us who grew up listening to him. I'm glad to know he's back on air, if indeed it is him.
How hot is it there? My mom keeps telling me this summer has just about killed her with the heat, but I keep telling her that the old wives tale will come true again. Since you're new to SC, I'll let you in on the secret! :flower: The cooler weather won't be there until the week of the Ladson fair. Then, it will be cool and everyone won't be melting! :teeth:

Nina and Dean are off the air right now. The baby's condition has been upgraded to 'guarded'. We'll keep good thoughts.

Darla Rourke has left the NBC affiliate to be a full time mom to her twins. Carolyn Murray is co-anchoring the news with Warren Peper, who was booted from the CBS affiliate.

John Robinson (who co-anchored with Darla) was let go- there was a clause in his contract that they could do that. He's the 'voice' of the Carolina Panthers, and has family in Charlotte- so he'll probably return to NC. He was commuting on the weekends to do the Panther announcing.

HTH!

I forgot to say that Nina and Dean are on the ABC affiliate.

Sorry!

Thanks for helping make sense of my jibberish :) I'm new so I couldn't put it together as nicely as you. Shame that they let John Robinson go. That's so mean!

That's okay- you'll get it eventually. And you know what they say- that's television!

Congratulations on your weight loss too!

Thanks, Flower!!

If any of you are Amazing Race fans, watch it tonight. They'll be in our area :) :) :)

I gotta watch The Biggest Loser!

It kind of keeps me motivated to keep on track.....

That's neat about Amazing Race though- it's nice that they have an opportunity to showcase our area.

Enjoy!

You can actually watch both. Biggest Loser is on at 8 and Amazing Race is on at 9 ;)

I would, but DH likes Commander in Chief on ABC.....

I've got to let him get a choice SOMETIMES!
