Best Nausea Medicine

My daughter and I both do very well at Disney with a combo of taking generic "less-drowsy Dramamine" (meclizine) every 24 hours and wearing sea bands on the rides which could cause issues (eg. Star Tours). This also works great for us when traveling/flying.
Do you put the bands on and off and not leave them on all day? Friends kept bands on every day of their cruise and thought it worked well but curious if you do it at Disney.

I sincerely appreciate all the suggestions and have written them all down. I've given up on several of the Disney rides (Mission has and will always be out of the question) as even Snow White make me uncomfortable enough not to want to go again. It's the slight side to side movement. I definitely think as I age, I'm noticing it more and more as I only had problems with anesthesia in the past, not rides. Even now as a passenger in stop and go traffic, I can't live without Altoids by my side.

I'm very concerned about a Hawaii trip in January as we want to go whale watching.
Needed Dramamine on a cruise many years ago and I'm concerned. Will plan ahead with the methods mentioned.

Thanks again for this thread.

I've used the bracelets and ginger pills. Both have worked but ginger works a bit better.
Do you take the ginger pills as a preventative prior to the event or do you take it once you start to feel nauseous?

If you're looking for something more natural, try MotionEaze: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002D6M94E/ref=sxts1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473084894&sr=1
I use that with ginger chews (can be found in candy section of Whole Foods) and both have helped.

I would second the MotionEaze. I have a friend who can't sit in the back seat of a car and was able to ride Everest with no problem. She puts a drop behind each ear and then rubs what is left on her finger onto her temple. Trip saver for her.

Motion bands are good and inexpensive, cvs and the like. The ginger candies are always at out tjmaxx ... I buy them fairly regularly. They are individually wrapped, not Xtra chemicals/additives etc and under $4. For a bag ( about 25 or so)
Enjoy ur "non-nauseated" trip!

I make my own ginger tincture and it works great for my two motion sickness prone family members. My daughter gets sick just riding in the car, but with the tincture she rode the Harry Potter castle ride at Universal, Space Mountain, BTMRR, 7DMT, and EE. I've taken it before for upset stomachs not related to motion sickness. It works quickly and is very effective. I carry the bottle of tincture in my purse and dispense it a few times throughout the day at the parks.

I
I've been trying to read the different methods that some employ in order to not feel sick on rides. I do not get sick in the front of a vehicle, and sometimes not the back, nor do I get sick on straight on roller coasters. I can ride the Tower of Terror (yay!) but not RnR. I can't do anything that goes sideways or has a lot of twists and turns. Body Wars almost did me in. There are several rides I have never been on or haven't been on lately for fear of ruining my day. I have not ridden Space Mountain in a number of years (it seemed to get worse as I got older) and have never been on Star Wars or EE. I really want to do these things so I'm going to break down and try an anti nausea medication.
I've been reading different threads I could bring up, and I've taken Dramamine in the past but it didn't seem to work well. Haven't tried coke syrup (sounds awful - that might make me turn green without even riding anything) and I'm hesitant about the patch (I once tried the patch back in the days when I used to smoke and it began to itch terribly; since I was visiting in NYC I took it off for fear of having to go to the hospital). So, I don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be wonderful! I have scheduled fps for SM, Star Tours, RnR and EE; I really want to ride these. Most of the fps are either before we break mid day or last thing of the evening, just in case.
Thanks!
I use Bonine. I usually start taking it a day or two before I travel so my body adjusts. It's 24 hour dosing so I take it at night to avoid any sleepy side effects.

ginger helps a little bit for me, but not enough. Bonine know I me out. I use the scopolamine patch and that works like a charm for me. I can wear that and go to Cedar Point and ride every roller coaster and not get nauseated at all. I do notice some dry mouth/eyes when I wear it, but I bring some eye drops, drink plenty of water, and have some gum or hard candies to suck on and I'm fine.

For my last trip- per my GI dr.- I took my zofran, wore my sea bands, chewed ginger gum and I think I took bonine when needed.
Yes, I am a mess when it comes to rides!

I suffer from Simulator Sickness....any motion simulator/3D ride makes me sick. Also some roller coasters. The worst ones for me are:

EE (when it goes backwards, i get sick),
RnRc (i get very dizzy and nauseous),
Star Tours (I get nauseous),
Mission Space (I get nauseous. yes even the green side! never tried the orange sick green makes me sick).

I've tried taking ginger pills about 1/2 hour before I ride. It seems to work. Not completely though. But it does work.

wow, you dont mess around. im assuming they all worked?

I bought it at Target and it was pretty cheap. Right next to the regular Dramamine,it's in a white and green package. Maybe someone who has taken it before can shed some light for us because it's what I'm bringing so I'm really hoping it works!

I haven't read through all the replies but I wanted to say that I am someone who gets motion sickness very easily and I used this in January for the first time. DH and I were going to WDW and had a stop over flight (or whatever it's called when you go one place and then fly to your destination after). I took this and didn't get motion sickness at all!!!! It worked for the flight back also. I was so excited to finally find something that worked and didn't make me drowsy in the least! The wrist bands were something that didn't work for me (though one of my sons used them). I didn't do any motion sickness rides in WDW (such as tea cups, Star Tours, any big coasters), but if I had known that I was going to go on rides that typically make me ill, I definitely would have used this and known that it wouldn't make me sleepy and does work.

Good luck and have fun!!!!

This is the same advice I was going to give. I read it sometime a while back to take the Bonine before bed instead of in the morning. I get air sickness when flying and following that advice I don't feel like I'm walking around in a fog the rest of the day. Because the medicine is 24 hours, it seems to work even better than taking it before the flight.

The backwards part of EE did me in on a trip a few years ago, but I hadn't taken anything prior to riding. I don't think I could be convinced to ride again with all the sea bands, ginger, oils, Dramamine, and Bonine I could have! o_O

)So I bought Sea Bands, ginger gum and Bonine. Quick question: do you wear 2 bands or 1? I keep seeing them sold in pairs, but I think the Sea bands are single.
ETA: I will definitely not ride Mission Space, but I'm on the fence about Star Tours and EE. Surprisingly, I can ride Spider Man (just have to look away during the falling spiral sequence), but the backwards part of the Mummy almost got me. It was blissfully short, but another 10 seconds might have done the trick.

While I will be bringing ginger, and maybe Bonine, I feel obligated to pass along my doctor's advice. He said that if a ride is going to make you feel sick, the best preventative is not to go on the ride.

Of course, we don't always know in advance which rides will affect us, and as we age (and the rides age), rides that were previously fine may cause problems the next time.

You are correct and thats why I haven't ridden these in the past. Never been on EE or Star Tours and quit riding Space Mountain without trying. Once I got sick on a couple of roller coasters at a local amusement park I never tried to ride again. I definitely will not do Mission Space or RnR even armed with all my preventative items.

Do keep in mind that on Mission Space, the Orange and Green sides are very different in terms of physics. We're planning on the green side only.

I swear by Nauzene. They're chewable tablets, absolutely no side effects, and they work like a charm! You can find them at CVS or Walgreens, and I'm sure Amazon. Have a great trip!

I'm tried ginger chews for the first time in June. I was amazed at how much more I could do. And it does not make me tired! Great product, but I'm still not trying Space Mountain and I get you on Body Wars. I still remember getting out of that ride the one and only time I rode it. Ugh!
